The Canadian Western Mountain region is comprised of 4 large busy hotel operations with seasonal fluctuations and ever changing learning and development needs (Fairmont Banff Springs, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and Fairmont Chateau Whistler). The hotels work together to assess employee and leadership learning needs and execute programming.
This position is a hands on role responsible for assessing the needs of the employee and leadership teams, facilitating programming with a goal of driving ongoing development and training for all. A strong focus will be required on individual hotel needs assessments and delivery designed to meet the needs of each property with the goal of providing skills and experience that support all guest service and revenue generating initiatives. What you will be doing:
- Work with the Executive Team to assess the annual learning & development strategies for the hotel. This will include tools for onboarding, training, development and property specific demands
- Create and execute a world class onboarding experience for new Heartists, several hundred colleagues per year
- Facilitation of Accor Global Academy programming through INES for all levels of leadership, ad hoc leadership training and Diversity & Inclusion training
- Work with the Executive committee in reviewing and implementing hotel mentoring strategy focused on providing a program throughout the property designed to engage the leadership team in its pursuit of growth; both as individuals and to drive hotel results
- Participate in creating an environment of engaged leaders by being an active member of the leadership team. Creating strong inter personal relationships that allow for coaching and guidance that supports both leaders and colleague engagement
- Facilitate Leadership Orientation to support the onboarding of leaders to policies and procedures
- Work closely with the Director Talent & Culture and L&D steering committee to determine, access and facilitate leadership workshops
- Responsible for working with operational department leaders to review all Departmental Job Task Checks list and ensuring that the tools are in place for all departmental training
- Provide support and development of Departmental Trainers and ensure compliance and consistency
- Work closely with the Director of Talent & Culture and Key Department heads to prepare and manage training budget including monthly forecast and accrual process
- Work with the Director of T&C to initiate, coordinate and/or execute, evaluate and follow-up of all leadership training activities within the hotel
- Maintain accurate records of leadership training activities and participant information
- Support Apprenticeship programs throughout the hotel and be a champion for our recognition program
- In partnership with the Assistant Director of T&C, manage the Educational Assistance Program
- Provide learning for all leaders on the topic of performance management. Monitor the colleague performance review program, Leadership Evaluation and Development Program to ensure participation and correct approach
- Proficiency in INES (Accor T&C system) allowing for record keeping, assignment of training and ability to provide system guidance to users.
- Collaborate with other Learning Managers in the Region with regular monthly calls and strategic direction
- Support the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and all pillars of measurement for success.
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment, and actively participate in health and safety initiatives
- Adhere to all hotel environmental policies and initiatives
- Carry out any other tasks as assigned
Your experience and skills include:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a leadership role within the hospitality industry, preferably operations. Previous L&D experience is an asset.
- University degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management or related discipline a strong asset
- Proven track record in needs assessment and facilitation of training programs in driving service excellence results
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Microsoft teams, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and Word) required
- Enthusiastic and positive personality with ability to build strong relationships
- Sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize will be required
- Results orientated with the ability to be flexible and to work well under pressure
- Innovative, creative and willing to take risks and be accountable for successes, near misses and the inevitable, misses
- Ability to analyze data and trends and create strategies for improvement
- Self‑motivated, with the ability to make effective decisions
- Demonstrates initiative, and the ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision
