Job Summary
Provide marketing expertise on short-term and long-term strategies, budgets, tactics and communications. Working alongside the Business & Marketing Solutions team, plan and manage the implementation of quarterly and annual work plans and campaigns in conjunction with internal stakeholders, external vendors and partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to Supervisor, Business & Marketing Solutions the successful candidate for this position is a highly motivated self-starter responsible for the marketing and promotion for several lines of business in the Community Services Department. The marketing consultant will:
- Develop and manage the implementation of marketing work plans for lines of businesses, utilizing your omnichannel marketing experience.
- Use available marketing communications channels effectively to promote programs and events in community services, as well as identify opportunities for innovation.
- Responsible for having an awareness of market conditions, competitive positioning and demographics for assigned lines of businesses to ensure marketing is responsive to customer and resident needs.
- Gather and interpret industry, comparator and trend analysis, features and benefits, customer needs, geo-targeting and gap analyses and assessments.
- Incorporate trend-setting marketing research and advertising approaches to develop and ensure that relevancy in the market place increases and is maintained.
- Keep updated on emerging trends in marketing and communications (digital and mobile media, integrated branding), etc.
- Develop marketing and promotional materials and literature including researching, writing and editing; must be able to communicate complex and ambiguous information in plain language.
- Compile budgets, track expenses, reconcile and forecast.
- Act as a point of contact for local advertisers, sponsors and other partners.
- Ensure collaboration and cross promotion of marketing campaigns across all Community Services units.
- Be responsive and maintain a high degree of customer service.
- Track appropriate usage data and accumulate regular customer service assessments and information through surveys, focus groups, and other formal interactions with facility users, program participants, event attendees and visitors.
- Identify population segments that are under represented in the participant profile or areas where program and event quality could be improved.
- Available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Comply with relevant City policies.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate of a post-secondary degree program in marketing, advertising, business, or related discipline, plus a minimum of three to five years related experience.
- Proven professional experience in a marketing, or advertising, position. Demonstrated experience creating, planning and executing strategic marketing campaigns, program and service promotional plans, social media strategies, experiential marketing and onsite activations.
- Excellent budgeting, project management, attention to detail, customer research, copywriting and planning skills are required.
- Creative problem solver with the necessary skills to perform in a fast-pasted environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member on multiple teams.
- Experience coordinating the creative development process and writing copy, as required.
- Experience in the following areas is considered an asset: recreation & sports; parks and environment; library; arts, culture and live events.
- Must be adaptable and able to work in a changing environment with various teams, internal and external service providers and partners to achieve their marketing plan.
