INTRO
As Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology (S&T) organization, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) serves the nation as an enabler of business innovation and technology transfer. The Simulations & Measurements for Advanced Radiation Technologies section within CNL’s Applied Physics Branch pursues activities pertaining to the interaction of radiation with matter, which includes the exploration of new technologies to detect and measure special nuclear materials (SNMs) to enhance the safety and security of Canadians.
We are currently accepting applications for a student co-op position to work on the development of simulation models, advanced data analytics and machine learning methods for the detection of radioactive materials. The successful candidate will work with CNL researchers, scientists, and engineers to assess, choose, adapt and implement simulation models, data analytics and machine learning methods to enhance the detection capabilities of Radiation Portal Monitors. This project offers several exciting opportunities for a young scientist/engineer to gain substantial hands-on experience within Canada’s premier nuclear S&T organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Testing and developing simulation models, data analytics and machine learning methods for the detection of radioactive materials.
- Modifying computer codes, running simulations, and analyzing results.
- Working with a team of scientists, engineers and technologists.
REQUIREMENTS
- Completed at least the second year of study at a university of recognized standing in Physics, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or related field.
- Must have a working knowledge of at least one of Python/SciPy, C, C++, Geant4 or ROOT.
- Must work well in a team environment and possess good communication skills.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Previous experience with machine learning, algorithm development, modelling and simulation, and/or Linux operating systems would be considered assets.
