I. Preamble
The Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN) has the mission to educate current and future nurses; advance the art and science of nursing; and optimize health and health equity globally through academic excellence, strengths-based nursing in healthcare, and innovation.
ISoN has committed to creating an Office of Social Accountability in Nursing (OSAN) as an umbrella for Global & Indigenous health, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-racism (EDI-A) mandates at the school. This initiative aligns with McGill University’s Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Strategic Plan 2020-2025, McGill’s Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism 2020-25, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS)’s Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism 2020-2025 and the Provost’s Task Force on Indigenous studies & Indigenous education.
The ISoN OSAN Coordinator supports the implementation of this office through strategic planning, project and data management, partnerships and communication. The goal of the office is to support equity-based nursing education, leadership, service, research and expertise.
II. Primary Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Director of the Ingram School of Nursing, the Academic Associate:
OSAN Development and Strategic Planning
- Engages intentionally with key partners at ISoN, and in Indigenous and underrepresented communities to create the OSAN Advisory Committee to ensure alignment with priorities and goals for nursing education and health care.
- Develops a strategic plan for the new office establishing priority activities and key indicators to monitor through time in collaboration with ISoN leadership, OSAN Director, and the OSAN advisory committee.
- Develops a quality monitoring plan with relevant benchmarks, such as evidence-informed benchmarks for underrepresented groups among ISoN faculty, staff, and students, to track activities and progress to implement EDI-A, Global and Indigenous health priorities at ISoN.
- Oversees the day-to-day planning and implementation of school-wide EDI-A and Global and Indigenous health opportunities and events.
- Researches and advises on current and emerging EDI-A, Global and Indigenous health issues and knowledge in nursing to inform successful strategies aligned with strategic plan.
- Serves as a resource to various ISoN committees to thread EDI-A concepts in processes and programs.
- Participates in building sustainability of the office through
Partnership and Communication
- Collaborates effectively with central resources at McGill, such as Provost Equity office, SACE McGill, GHP, IHPP, SPOT, SLP, School of Medicine, School of Population and Global Health and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science at large.
- Serves as the liaison on EDI-A between ISoN, Central initiatives at McGill, McGill Affiliated health care institutions and Community-Based Organizations.
- Contributes to writing and editing documents, publications, website content and social media postings on the activities of OSAN within McGill and with other initiatives relevant to nursing in Canada and globally.
Nursing Education and Continuing Education
- With ISoN leadership and OSAN Director, establishes a plan to:
- improve access to entry-to-practice education for individuals from underrepresented communities and
- provide ongoing support to students to promote inclusion and belonging at ISoN
- Reviews recruitment and admissions strategies in partnership with program directors through the lens of EDI-A.
- Supports the development of clear processes for EDI-A complaints and ensures effective dissemination of these.
- Participates in the development and mapping of transversal Indigenous and Global Health competencies in curriculum, with a lens of decolonization, Indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism, in collaboration with the ISON curriculum committees and relevant stakeholders, including the community.
- Collaboratively develops continuing education opportunities to build cultural safety/humility capacities in nursing and communicates opportunities to access these to promote safe care to communities.
- Supports student’s groups (MNGH, MNCS, MNHP, MNPH) in Global, Indigenous and EDI-A priorities.
- Supports the implementation of learning opportunities in global and Indigenous health, such as the Kairos Blanket Exercise, Ambassador and Ashukin programs, pre-departure and re-entry workshops, and equity-related funding opportunities for students.
III. Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing or in a closely related discipline
- Demonstration of knowledge of current best practices and trends in EDI-A, including familiarity with key concepts (e.g. cultural humility and safety, unconscious bias, etc…)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; French proficiency
- Knowledge and experience with technology (Microsoft office tools, program management tools, etc…)
- Excellent project management and change management skills
- Understanding of nursing and the healthcare system an asset

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
Job Status: Full time or Part-time
