School of Info & Communication Tech

The School of Information and Communications Technologies at SAIT offers an exciting and diverse range of programs in information, media and engineering technologies. From broadcast and print journalism to web development and beyond, our career programs position graduates for success by providing learning experiences that are relevant, skills-oriented, and applied in the real world.

SAIT requires a daytime instructor for the Information Technology (IT) Program. The IT program encompasses four majors, Computer Systems, Network Systems, Software Development and Telecom Systems. This contract instructor position encompasses teaching in one or more of the following subject areas within each major:

  • IT Security (Endpoint, intrusion, defense, malware analysis)
  • Computer Operating Systems (Kernel and OS functions)
  • Scripting (Bash, Powershell, Python)
  • Emerging Trends (Cloud, Containerization, Blockchain, IoT)
  • Web Essentials (HTML, CSS, Javascript)

The instructor’s role is to professionally manage the learning process of the students and to ensure that students achieve established learning objectives to the maximum of their potential. The instructor is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature.

Note: This is a casual hourly role until June 30, 2022, with a possibility for extension. We are currently recruiting for multiple contract instructors, please indicate your area of expertise when applying.

The Role

  • Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities, and lab demonstrations for learners
  • Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes
  • Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
  • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
  • Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
  • Manage the student lab environment including scheduling, and proper use and storage of lab equipment and supplies
  • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors

Qualifications

  • Relevant post-secondary education (minimum two-year diploma from a recognized institute) and a minimum of five years related industry experience. Teaching experience at a post-secondary institute in Canada is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills; the ability to organize and present written information
  • Strong commitment to delivering high quality instruction within set deadlines
  • Expertise in one or more of the following competencies:
  • Experience in IT security in deployment and administration of systems
  • Experience developing responsive web applications using HTML/CSS/Javascript (e.g. jQuery, AJAX)
  • Experience creating and deploying robust scripts using multiple languages (e.g. Python, Bash, Powershell)
  • Experience in client and server management environments
  • In-depth understanding of operating systems internals such as process management, memory management, file systems and storage management.
  • Awareness of the IT industry and emerging technologies (e.g. blockchain, AI, cloud computing)
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux (both GUI and CLI)
