The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Ontario Tech University invites applications, from qualified individuals, for an Assistant Teaching Professor position. The successful Candidate is expected to teach courses in the general area of applied mechanics including but not limited to solid mechanics, engineering design, machine design, kinematics and dynamics of machines, CAD, and concurrent engineering. The position is subject to budgetary approval and would start on January 3, 2023, as soon as it is filled.
The successful candidate should possess a PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, with a strong academic background and teaching experience. Experience in designing/building engineering laboratories and industry experience are considered valuable assets. The successful candidate must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Ontario or other provinces. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless technology, Ontario Tech seeks faculty who strive to explore and develop new pedagogies. The successful Candidate must also demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions. In addition, the Candidate should possess excellent English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.
The successful candidate is expected to have strong commitment for teaching, program development and student engagement activities. Teaching faculty members are expected to follow a 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% other workload each year as per the collective agreement.
The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (MME) offers honours undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Energy specialization, and Manufacturing Engineering. The Department also offers the corresponding Engineering and Management degrees for all the programs. In addition, the Department offers Master’s (MASc and MEng) and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering (with various specializations), and a graduate program (MEng) in Engineering Management. The Department is committed to excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary teaching and research, which is relevant to the needs of society and our surroundings.
