Clinical Data and Insights (CDI) is a function of about 500 people within Development Operations. We work across the R&D portfolio and lead the delivery of clinical data and insights, through simplification, quality by design and collaboration. Our scope includes data management, centralized monitoring, trial safety review, standards, automation & specialist programming, transformational clinical data projects and data capability & operations. Our vision is to transform our clinical data flows and advance data derived insights, to enable acceleration of life changing medicines to patients.

As the Associate Director, Data Science you will be accountable for independently leading highly complex data science projects and/or leading project teams.You will be responsible for design, implementation and maintaining of production search systems/programs applying deep/machine learning and semantic engines over many content types (e.g. natural language, images, clinical data, entities/relationships). Work closely with data mangers and study teams to translate their requirements to products/solutions. Use various blends of analytical, data science and data wrangling skills to assess project objectives, understand the data and system landscape, design, build and deliver end-to-end solutions.

What you’ll need to be successful in this role:

Deep understanding of modern vector/embedding-based representation techniques with the ability to design and implement algorithms for their generation

Deep knowledge of Tensorflow/Pytorch frameworks for implementing and optimizing deep learning algorithms for training quality and serving performance

Experience in industry or academic research, particularly in deep learning and neural networks

Strong algorithms, data structures, and coding background with either Python, C++, or Java programming experience

Experience working with knowledge graphs stores (Ontotext GraphDB, Neo4j) and surrounding semantic technology.

Proven experience of agile working practices

Proficient in building dashboards

Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask; set priorities and follow a timeline

Great attention to detail and excellent communications skills

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Well-versed in leading a cross functional team as well as ability to work independently

Essential Requirements:

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a Computer Science with proven track record as data scientist (US)

Proficient in data science and AI techniques, including Python, NLP Knowledge Graph, ML algorithms, with an ability to share insights in a powerful way.

In-depth experience in data analysis, profiling, investigating, interpreting and detailing data requirements, e.g. data modelling techniques and hands on modelling experience

Demonstrated data wrangling ability to combine data from disparate sources and generate insights

Accountabilities:

Acts as a subject matter expert in areas of data wrangling, data mining, data transformation, data visualization and data science and AI techniques, including predictive analytics to enable accelerated set up and conduct of data management activities and to a high-quality

Work closely with key business stakeholders to understand business need and deliver solutions that provides relevant data insights

Leads complex data science projects to generate knowledge and insights from clinical & operational data that help teams pause, reflect and be more efficient/effective in their data review tasks by eliminating non-value-added activities

Liaises closely with DM and programming teams to understand opportunities not covered by conventional data validation checks or data review reports and drives development of cutting-edge data management solutions

Builds effective partnership with data provisioning groups and data science representatives in the organization

Extended member of data strategy meeting chaired by study DM and advise teams on how best to utilize data to reduce redundancies and create efficiencies in data collection and review

Ability to identify business opportunities and discover new solutions that supports DM Leads/DMLT in achieving business objectives and operational efficiencies

Experienced in story telling with ability to communicate methodology and results to an audience of mixed technical backgrounds in an impactful way

Possess strong project management skills to lead an agile team with a value-focused culture

Guide teams to identify optimal model and effective ways to improve algorithms, performance runs, model tuning, experimentation and testing

Support and mentor other team members, may act as line manager

Provides consultancy and training in area of data analysis to other DM team members, including training on novel tools

Contributes to department strategy by acting as subject matter expert (internally and externally) and leading improvement and innovation projects

Desirable Requirements

Solid grasp of applied mathematical, machine learning and AI techniques and workflows

Good understanding of project management techniques and methods

Knowledge of statistics

Knowledge of pharmaceutical clinical research process

Knowledge of GxP & FAIR Data Principles
