Hybrid Work Model

SLC Management operates in a hybrid environment with a mix of in-office and virtual work where our employees are empowered to do their best. Most employees work in-office 2-3 days per week depending on their client, business and team needs.

About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Director, SLC Compensation Finance, the Associate Director, SLC Compensation Finance serves as a key member of the SLC Compensation Finance team and is responsible for managing the finance-related activities for the various compensation programs across the SLC Management organization including its affiliates.

Partners across HR and Finance functions, with our Sun Life and SLC business partners and SLC affiliates to implement strong governance and financial controls for various compensation programs across and ensure accurate and timely completion of various deliverables to the key stakeholders.

This is a key finance role that will require strong understanding of our business (including the affiliates) and each of the compensation programs. The incumbent must thrive on collaborating with many business partners, understanding and managing the volume and complexity of the compensation programs in order to deliver accurate, timely and meaningful results to senior leadership and other key stakeholders of the programs.

What will you do?

Partners across SLC, HR and the various affiliates and business to build a strong and robust process to ensure all key compensation-related deliverables including the required inputs and timelines are clearly identified.

Manages the processes for various SLC compensation programs, including but not limited to

Responsible for the accounting, reconciliation and reporting of various SLC compensation programs.

unit value calculations for the SLC Phantom Share Unit (PSU) Plans

sales reconciliation and incentive pool calculation for the Sales Incentive Plans (SIP)

producing supporting metrics and analytical commentaries for the Annual Incentive Plans (AIP)

managing our existing management equity programs, such as maintaining the unit tracking schedule, determining quarterly income allocations by participant, cash distributions, calculations of redemption values, preparation of quarterly participant’s statements, communication with participants etc.

Liaise with Tax team for quarterly tax payments and preparation of annual tax schedules/slips related to compensation plans

Enhance existing SOX process documentation and controls for the various compensation programs and clearer identification of timelines and accountabilities by various teams involved in the processes.

Assist SOX team, internal and external auditors with quarterly/annual reviews and walkthroughs

Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset and ensures strong governance and records management processes are in place throughout the SLC compensation processes and platform.

Develops strong relationships with the affiliates to support calculations, reviews and reconciliation of their inputs to their respective compensation programs.

What do you need to succeed?

Bachelor’s degree with experience in compensation functions (2-5 years) combined with a Finance background.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain strong relationships with all levels of the organization.

Ability to apply technical knowledge to business issues and have the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.

Strong problem solving, financial analysis and conceptual skills.

Ability to organize, manage and interpret data in a meaningful way.

Highly developed analytical skills with ability to identify key issues and develop solutions is essential.

Strong time management skills and able to handle conflicting priorities while driving desired results.

Preferred Skills:

Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) will be strongly preferred

Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Experience with SAP, Oracle, and/or Tableau will be an asset

Experience with working at a Financial Institution especially in the Asset Management space will be a valuable asset

Knowledge of IFRS 2 (Share-based Payment) and IAS 19 (Employee Benefits) is a strong asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location of the job. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
