The Opportunity

This is a high visibility role with opportunities to work with Manulife insurance business Leadership. The BI analyst will work as a part of a larger team to drive business insights & stakeholder satisfaction by analyzing data from Canadian segment insurance products and LOBs.

They will find ways to aggregate new sources of insurance data, which cater to insurance claims, underwriting and operations & incorporate them to create Power BI dashboards (descriptive analytics and diagnostic analytics).

Responsibilities

  • Generate relevant, useful insights based on iterative data analysis, translate data-driven output into business language, and make appropriate recommendations to business partners
  • Provide, understand, and document various data sources and how they can be aggregated to build a single lens for insurance data analytics
  • Help build use cases to discover insights from gathered data sets
  • Build stable working relationships with multi-functional peers, establish an internal network
  • Owns career development. Takes advantage of available resources to advance technical and business skills
  • Learn and understand how work you’re doing fit into the broader initiative

What we are looking for

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field is encouraged. An advanced degree in a quantitative field is preferred
  • Curious, self-starter, lifetime learner with a passion for unlocking business value
  • Ability to engage in the data analysis process, including data exploration
  • Good experience working with business intelligence systems, dashboard reporting, and analytical reporting like Power BI, Tableau or Qlikview (Power BI preferred)
  • Ability to work with complex datasets
  • Experience working with SQL or related programming languages for data analysis (e.g. R, Python etc.)
  • Knowledge of software development standard methodologies (e.g. Git, DevOps, Agile)
  • Excellent knowledge of relational database models
