Job description: The Clinical Engineering Department provides the general management of medical technology for the Hospital. The department acts as a consultant to nursing directors, clinical leader/managers, nurses, doctors, and paramedical personnel in determining whether a specific technology will help them in the treatment of a disease; as well as to Procurement Services and health care professionals in the writing of equipment specifications, tendering documents, technical evaluation, and cost analysis of medical technology. Included in the management of technology is the assurance to Hospital staff that medical equipment meets the required safety and quality standards, and is safe to use on patients and by operators.

The department repairs, maintains and ensures proper functionality of most medical equipment in the Hospital and also provides technical services in the Diabetes Comprehensive Care Program (DCCP) including hemodialysis equipment and water treatment systems to ensure they are in excellent working order to deliver the prescribed dialysis care. The department also provides in-service to user to ensure proper use of medical equipment and their capabilities. As part of the management of technology, the department manages the Equipment Maintenance Program and equipment under service contracts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on electromedical equipment to ensure compliance with established industrial standards, CSA standards, and manufacturer’s operational specification.
  • Performs safety inspection on all incoming electromedical equipment used in patient care areas and laboratories.
  • Performs Planned Maintenance (PM) to ensure electromedical equipment is functioning within specifications, safe to be used on patients and for operators.
  • Acts as technical resource person for clinical and medical staff.
  • Involves in the evaluation of electromedical equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have an undergraduate education in biomedical or electronic engineering technologist or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 years recent experience in electromedical equipment troubleshooting, repair and maintenance experience.
  • Ability to obtain and evaluate different types of information to ensure comprehensive daily operation and optimized future developments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer literacy
