POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Clinical Extern Program is an extraordinary, real-world opportunity available to respiratory therapy students enrolled in an accredited respiratory therapy program prior to entering into their last years of their respiratory therapy program. This program will allow the Clinical Extern to work as an Unregulated Health Care Worker in one of our clinical areas while gaining hands-on experience in performing fundamental patient care and equipment duties.

Assigned within the respiratory therapy team to an identified Respiratory Therapist and reporting to the Manager, the Clinical Extern will work within our model of care to gain an understanding and appreciation for the role of the Respiratory Therapist, as well as assist with the functioning of the clinical team at the patient care level. Working in an Interprofessional team environment, the Clinical Extern will adhere to strict privacy and confidentiality and contribute as an enthusiastic and person-focused reliable student fostering a positive patient and family experience.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Days, evenings, nights, weekends. Included are statutory holidays, school holidays.

12 hour shifts (subject to change)

Compensation:

Salary Rate: $19.81 per hour

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, and entering into final years of a Respiratory Therapy (in year 2 and 3) program;
  • Current BCLS required;
  • Well-developed communication, critical thinking and organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize and take initiative;
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
  • Ability to work all shifts as necessary;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  • An official school transcript will be required if you are invited to be interviewed for this position;
