Job Description

What you can expect in a typical day:

As a Contracts & Procurement Specialist you will have the responsibility and accountability for more complex inventory and order management of Goods & Services, including negotiation of Purchase Order Terms and Conditions. You have ownership of supporting the business by managing purchasing requirements in the areas required of manufacturing, refining, warehouse inventory and capital projects.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Manage daily and forecasted review of procurement requirements for goods and/or services for various departments such as IT, Insurance, Facilities, Real Estate and other Corporate departments.
  • Work closely with project and business leads to understand project timelines, procurement lead times and resource support requirements of the purchasing team.
  • Address and negotiate amendment requests on Purchase Order Terms and Conditions within approval authority.
  • Negotiate with qualified suppliers to ensure the best value.
  • Issue purchase orders and gain appropriate approval.
  • Follow through with supplier/contractors to ensure commitments are acknowledged. Expedite deliveries of materials as per required at site dates.
  • Resolve any invoice holds/errors to ensure payment to suppliers.
  • Timely closure of PO’s to mitigate risk.
  • Support the implementation of all related policies, processes and procedures.
  • Engage with business customers to monitor and resolve any issues with the Supplier delivering the defined scope of services or supply of goods.
  • Effectively manage the Procure to Pay process.
  • Change Management – Support and implement change management process and use change management tools & strategies at peer level
  • Contract Law and Management – Understand legal concepts as they pertain to purchasing as well as executing existing purchasing contracts
  • Negotiating – Able to secure win-win agreements while successfully representing the company’s interest.
  • Support the implementation of KPI’s to drive continuous improvement in driving business value and productivity.

Education and experience

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or similar designation an asset.
  • Min 3-5 years’ experience working in Supply Chain Management.
  • Experience working in the oil and gas industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Procure to Pay procedures, sourcing, and negotiation.
  • Familiar with basic principles of Contract Management.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Experience with various ERP and MRPs, Oracle, EBS and SAGE is an asset.
