Specific Job Description

This role is important in fulfilling the strategic roadmap goals of LM Canada. As part of the Engineering team, you will be directly involved in the development of best-in-class product solutions as they relate to building a secure supply chain with sound component engineering practices. The role will contribute to the products/systems that will serve to maintain Lockheed’s robust position in the Naval market space. As an experienced component engineer, your role will include confirming that components meet customer requirements, establishing vendor relationships, auditing potential vendors equipment suitability, creating obsolescence mitigation plans and supporting programs from prototyping to End-Of-Life (EOL).
You will be able to lead by demonstrating engineering interest in novel material/vendor technologies, creating work estimates, proposing improvements, conducting risk analysis and chairing component reviews to optimize solutions prior to Production hand-off.

• Prepare, load, and monitor BoM for component obsolescence issues and strategic solutions
• Generate spreadsheets and reports for design/production stakeholders to review options for non-conforming parts and obsolescence issues
• Communicate with suppliers to resolves issues that involved component quality or functionality
• Negotiate best pricing in procuring materials used the manufacture of development products
• Document in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, new part numbers, create source control drawings, and maintain the Approved Vendor List (AVL)
• Cross-reference from customer part numbers to internally used part numbers
• Audit new part requests for accuracy, consistency, and duplication and assigned part numbers
• Document vendor components to verify Form, Fit and Function applicability
• Generate new part requests for new part numbers and maintained BoMs
• Minimize single-source parts to support supply chain
• Generate engineering change orders to release item and part numbers
• Conduct production facility audits for major component suppliers
• Support Procurement/System Engineers in the selection, qualification, and management process of electronic component suppliers, resulting in cost savings
• Interface with electronic component suppliers and design engineers to qualify both the supplier and the component
• Review and approve qualified components and sub-assemblies (electrical, electronics, Mechanical) for ROHS content or other commercial or military restrictions from approved vendors

Required skills, qualifications and experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university or its equivalent with relevant work experience in design and production environment

Responsibilities:

• Act as technical interface between component suppliers and development engineers to determine new and alternate sources during product development
• Employ applied knowledge of engineering principles to specify system components and direct product modifications to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
• Present advantages and shortcomings of various component selections i.e. trade-off studies
• Provide technical support to R&D and manufacturing on component selection processes and new technologies
• Evaluation of components and assistance to design team with component selection and second sources
• Support current projects related to reliability and component selection
• Collect models and datasheets for a variety of integrated and complex military and industrial equipment items
• Evaluate and solve end-of-life (EOL) component issues
• Researched sources of hard-to-find and EOL components
• Study and identify replacements for components declared EOL by suppliers
• Recommend alternate sources based on Supplier Roadmap and or current availability
• Analysis of products for obsolescence and provide mitigation solutions for obsolete components
• Research of component obsolescence issues and manufacturer name changes with development of solution plans
• Coordinate with suppliers to resolve component failures, resolve obsolescence issues, improve component quality and reduce component BoM costs

• Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing, mechanical and electrical systems within commercial industry
• Experience contributing to the production, research, development, compliance, and design stages of manufacturing
• Track record of leading electronic hardware component obsolescence management and in resultant component obsolescence resolutions
• Experience in reading schematics for circuit designs and be able to use industry standard electronic testing equipment
• Basic understanding of the principles of shock and vibration, thermal management and electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compliance management and how these environmental requirements are accommodated in product design
• Working application knowledge of the following standards – MIL STD 810, MIL STD 461, MIL STD 167, MIL STD 901, IPC-620/610, MIL-C-39012C, MIL-C-17, MIL-C-27500, MIL-W-22759, ANSI, IEEE cable standards. Possesses a complete understanding of how the performance requirements outlined in these standards impact product development in harsh environments
