Job title: Data Integration Internship
Job description: We’re looking for data/application integration developers that can support building, deploying and maintaining data integration processes between applications. This role will be a part of the Data Engineering team, and will work closely with the Business Intelligence, Data Science, and Development teams. We are looking for junior technical minded people who are reliable, technically adept and comfortable working in a hybrid remote environment with little supervision.
The data engineering team is responsible for centralizing, enriching, and coordinating data movement between back office and analytics systems. We integrate our accounting, human resources processes and sales pipelines using a variety of concepts and technologies like microservices, data warehouses, ETL, REST API’s, Webhooks, various database technologies, and tools and code deliverables like Postgres, Snowflake, Python and Java. We look for opportunities for improvement across business processes to help our business units deliver value to our end users and provide world-class customer experiences.
As a Data Integration Intern, you will shadow and support the data integration specialists and data engineers with application integration, data integration and data engineering initiatives. You will analyze business processes and identify automation opportunities, help design and build secure, sustainable data processes that can be leveraged across the organization. You should be open to a variety of problems to solve, comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams and learning a multitude of technologies in a cloud based environment (AWS). The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of helping optimize our organization’s back office processes to support the next generation of products and analytics.
The Data Team at Reach is responsible for the data needs of the entire enterprise and all the business units. You will report to the Head of Data Engineering within the Data division of Reach, which is parallel to the software development team.
Technologies used:
- Infrastructure: AWS (Lambda, SQS, S3, EC2, EKS)
- Data: Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Matillion

- Programming: Python, Java, C++
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist data engineers with identifying, designing, and implementing data integration processes and improvements: automating manual business processes, optimizing data movement between back office applications, re-designing processes for greater scalability, security, etc.
- Identify opportunities to enhance data integrity, query optimization, disaster recovery, and version control.
- Improve data cataloguing and governance to provide the organization accountability and transparency on its data system.
- Review and improve current ETL/ELT processes.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with multiple product teams, software development.
- Support teams and end users to solve complex process and data-related technical issues and support their data needs.
- Work effectively and collaborate with other teams to drive organization wide efficiencies.
- Triage integration issues for effective resolution.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in a related technical/analytical field (Computer Science, Data, Statistics, Mathematics etc.) or equivalent co-op Program in a post-secondary institution.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and organizational skills.
- Experience using SQL or a similar database query language.
- A basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle, and the purpose of version control(Git/Github)Basic understanding of data types and schemas.
- Basic understanding of compiled and scripting programming languages (Java, Python).
- Basic understanding of REST and SOAP APIs.
- Knowledge of data warehousing, ETLs, structured and unstructured files.
- Strong technical skills related to working with development tools, database technologies, APIs, structured and unstructured datasets.
- Continuous improvement mindset taking initiative to research and adapt new technologies and methodologies.
Nice to haves
- Experience in developing an application integration, ETL or Data Engineering.
- Knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and ‘big data’ data stores.
- Working with a cloud environment like AWS, Azure, GCP.
- Familiarity of analytics and dashboarding tools like Tableau, Excel/Power BI, etc.
- Familiarity with data science methodologies and tools such as Dataiku, Jupyter Notebooks, Model training, etc.
