The Data & Analytics team at Loblaw is hiring a Director of Data Science with experience in automation, ML modeling, and problem solving. The incumbent will be responsible for leading a team of Data Scientists to conduct analyses and develop production-ready models and solutions that will bring value to the business. Focus areas include, but are not limited to, demand forecasting, distribution, transportation and other areas of supply chain and logistics operations.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead your team. This people manager role sees you providing guidance, hands-on support and technical expertise (SQL, Python, ML) to a team of data scientists, helping them to achieve required outcomes
• Work in a matrix environment. You will collaborate with business partners and many other resources from across the enterprise to develop and deliver data solutions
• You will grow your subject matter expertise in your business area to become better at understanding opportunities and creating data solutions
• You will keep projects on track and provide updates to the management as required
• Work with Loblaw Technology (IT) to access data and develop solutions to production
• Strictly adhere to legal and compliance guidelines; regarding access and exposure to sensitive and confidential information

What You’ll Bring:

• Masters or PhD degree in an analytical field of study (e.g. Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics)
• 7+ years of experience with SQL, Python and in an analytical role working with large data sets and analytic tools
• 3+ years of experience with ML / AI technologies, such as scikit-learn, Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc
• Superb analytical and conceptual thinking skills; to not only manipulate but also derive meaningful interpretations from data
• Experienced technical leader who will guide and mentor other data scientists
• Experience in building ML models and bringing them to production in a complex enterprise setting
• Detail oriented with an ability to communicate across various levels is essential
• Experience in software engineering is an asset
• Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment as a team player
