Engineering Assistant 3 – Water Planning

(Regular Full-Time)

SCOPE
We are currently recruiting for a senior-level technologist for BC’s largest water distribution networks to help provide safe and clean drinking water to over 500,000 residents. As a member of the Water Planning team you will play a pivotal role in providing assistance to senior staff related to engineering activities and projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES
On a rotational basis, you will be involved in different programs and initiatives in the Water Planning section, some of which are listed below:

  • Water metering program, where you will be responsible for coordinating the annual meter replacement and testing implementation
  • Condition assessment program, where you will help identify available and suitable technologies, areas to be assessed, and implement the recommended condition assessment projects
  • Water quality program you will help manage and plan activities such as exploring new solutions and technologies, equipment that needs to be purchased and installed, and monitor the outcome of the study
  • Demand management program, where you will help monitor winter and seasonal water consumption trend, leakage and other unaccounted for water consumption in the city, and identify ways to reduce the overall water consumption.
  • Water servicing plan development, where you will use the City’s hydraulic model to plan for water servicing strategy to support future development as identified in a Neighborhood Concept Plan

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates under consideration will have completed a minimum of a 2-year Civil Engineering Technology diploma from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • Five (5) years of related experience and a demonstrated record of technical expertise, knowledge, skills and ability in utility planning.
  • Supervisory experience in the relevant area of civil engineering.
  • A valid and unrestricted driver’s license.

ASSETS

  • Working knowledge of GIS application would be beneficial
  • Working knowledge of Infowater application would be beneficial
  • Solid understanding of the City’s design criteria and specifications, bylaws and Practice & Procedure would be beneficial

  • A strong ability to innovate, develop concepts, make recommendations, and prepare reports.
  • The ability to effectively communicate and work effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Advanced engineering knowledge in the area of municipal water planning.
  • The ability to think critically and make sound decisions in line with engineering practices and city policies and procedures.
