Job description: Lead Engineer – Dunn-Rite Food Products

Winnipeg, Manitoba

Our client, Dunn-Rite Food Products is looking for a Lead Engineer to support and work with the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager, to mentor and coach shift maintenance personnel. This position will hold responsibility of Chief Engineer for this facility. The role will foster team dynamic and the spirit of cooperation. It will be necessary to have a constructive liaison with other departments to determine any repairs that need to be carried out.

As the Lead Engineer you will:

  • Perform safe operation and maintenance of all utility’s equipment such as: ammonia refrigeration plant, all Freon type refrigeration units, heating, air conditioning units, air compressors, boiler, water heating equipment, air make up units, air handling units and other accessories.
  • Provide direction on all operational-related projects to meet capability, output, facility, and systems requirements, increase efficiencies, support safety, validation, and meet goals and objectives that contribute to the overall success of the organization.
  • Monitors the performance of Engineers, contractors, and service personnel for repairs and installations as needed, and communicates issues back to Department Manager
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning, assuring all above functions support branch operations as well as corporate goas and objectives.
  • Ensures logbooks are maintained of the daily operations and maintenance of the equipment. Responsible for the preparation of all required equipment for annual inspection.
  • Ensure the building firefighting equipment such as fire sprinklers and fire extinguishers are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure the wastewater treatment plant as compliance of the city wastewater regulations.
  • Accountable for enforcement of company health and safety policies on the production line(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.

You and Your Experience:

  • Certified 3rd Class Power Engineer.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a leadership role
  • Knowledge in mechanical engineering, project management, facilities management, systems engineering, equipment maintenance, design & drafting, computer applications, and an ability to provide superior leadership skills.
  • Previous experience working with utilities equipment such as ammonia refrigeration &Freon type refrigeration
  • Experience managing multiple projects and excellent communication skills to interact with all operational departments.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to interact with all levels on the organization.
  • Well versed in safety standards and ability to communicate safety principles.
  • Clear understand of all manufacturing operations, cost implications and efficiency requirements to ensure continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency when necessary.
