Job title: Engineering Technician IV – Development Services

Job description: The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced engineering technologist to join our Engineering Department. The Engineering Technician IV will performs technical work at a semi-professional level within a technical team that delivers new municipal infrastructure through development construction. The work of the Engineering Technician IV involves field and office assignments including the review of engineering drawings and recommending design revisions for conformance to Saanich specifications and operational requirements; review and scrutiny of design submission packages, including cost estimates, for completeness and accuracy; conducting construction inspection/reporting and contract administration; liaison with the public, developers, and consultants; and the protection of municipal assets through the review and approval of permits for works within the municipal right-of-way. The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills, is technically proficient in municipal engineering, and is a great communicator.

Requirements include a two year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution, a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience, is eligible for registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC (ASTTBC), a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, a personal vehicle available for use as and when required, and conversant with computer based engineering applications including AutoCAD and Bluebeam Revu. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, such as a university degree in a relevant field of engineering with a minimum of 3 years work experience. The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
