Job Description
Reporting to the AVP Group Insurance Financial Reporting and Planning, the Group Benefits Director of Finance will play a critical role in advising the Group Benefits business and providing useful insights to support the execution of strategic plans and manage the business.
The position is expected to use general finance, accounting and reporting expertise and insurance specific knowledge to provide earnings analysis, forecast and recommendations to Finance, Management, Strategy, Underwriting, Pricing and other business partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Management Reporting and Planning:
- Responsible for providing data-based insights and reporting to measure financial performance for the Group Benefits disability products including claims gain, client-level profitability reporting, trends and other metrics for assessing Group Benefits financial performance
- Accountability for earnings forecast for the disability products. Build strong partnership with the disability organization leaders to develop business and financial models for earnings drivers
- Working collaboratively with Pricing, Valuation and Finance Systems in all matters related to disability products, including pricing, earnings emergence and performance monitoring
- Responsible for Group Benefits expense gap reporting; collaborate with Expense COE and business leaders to ensure a clear understanding of cost drivers and unit cost and support the business in achieving targets
Strategic Planning and Projects:
- Provide finance expertise to support Group Benefits growth opportunities and the execution of strategic plans
- Build effective partnership with Strategy to identify investments in projects and provide finance expertise in project governance, funding and benefits
- Provide financial oversight for Group Insurance projects, review cases and support finance management approval
Risk, Controls and Finance processes
- Partner with Group Benefits Operations and shared functions to understand the end-to-end process and controls for large case clients
- Responsible for identifying and implementing financial operational improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and timeliness of large case clients monitoring and financial governance
- Accountable for monitoring quarterly financial controls for identified large case clients
- Provide technical accounting expertise in various aspects of reporting for Group Benefits including IFRS17 and forecast modeling

Qualifications:
- Accounting designation is a requirement, CPA
- Strong finance background, with post-secondary education and 10+ years of increased responsibility in financial management, reporting and analysis, and financial process improvement
- Strong understanding of the business environment and complex concepts in financial services; experience in insurance is an asset
- Demonstrated strong leadership, critical thinking and personal effectiveness competencies: negotiating and influencing skills, adaptability to change and continuously showing initiative
- Strong collaboration within the team and across various units in the business and shared centers
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to explore and understand complex business and financial processes
- Proven ability to manage multiple, conflicting priorities and deliver a quality result within tight deadlines
