Are you passionate about municipal budgets and looking for an opportunity to be a part of implementing progressive budgeting systems and processes? Saanich Finance is building its Financial Planning Section and the newly created Financial Planning Manager will be a key position in implementing new budget software and best practices in public sector budgeting across the organization. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the development of operating and capital budgets and coordinating the provision of financial analysis for budget monitoring and decision making. Key accountabilities will include reviewing business practices, processes and systems in order to recommend and implement best practices respecting budget development; developing and managing training for all Saanich employees involved in budget development; coordinating the development, implementation and maintenance of corporate budgeting systems to meet the business and financial information needs of the organization and assisting in developing and leading the delivery of public engagement opportunities in the financial planning process.
The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge and experience in public sector accounting and budgeting including the use of computerized budgeting systems and the ability to plan, organize, develop and implement budgeting processes and services, best practices and workplace improvements.
Requirements include a professional accounting designation; seven years’ experience including a minimum five years managing employees including recruitment and experience in public sector accounting and budgeting for local government. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
