What Will You Do

The Landscape Construction Foreman produces predictable order by organizing the Install Lead-Hand, Install Assistants and other resources to achieve the timely, efficient completion of landscape installation and construction projects. S/he is responsible for the ensuring the efficient execution of the day-to-day tasks on site with the assistance of the Field PM. These include tasks such as assisting with supervision of a crew of 2 – 3 employees, planning daily production and working on site with the crew to keep projects on schedule in conjunction with the Field Project Manager. S/he is constantly providing mentorship and support to Lead-Hands and Assistants with the intent on improving employee productivity and creating additional value for the company in landscape install operational areas.

The following are the duties for the position:

Leadership

  • Plans, delegates and oversees the onsite tasks necessary to complete landscape construction / carpentry installation projects with the Field PM’s
  • Envisions project completion and sets out relevant, time bound goals for crews to achieve with the Field PM
  • Mentors and guides direct reports
  • Monitors production of the crews
  • Engages in conflict resolution and works with Field Project managers to resolve issues

Project Production

  • Develops and implements daily production plans for install crews
  • Controls production and production standards on the job site
  • Monitors and reports progress on a daily basis
  • Reviews project success and provides feedback for improvement in conjunction with management
  • Identifies and recommends processes and procedures for the company to improve operations and installation projects
  • Protects the company against wasteful, inefficient, unsafe, and fraudulent practices

HR

  • Communicates to Field Project Manager regarding direct/indirect reports as needed
  • Reprimands direct reports according to company policy and discipline escalation procedure with assistance of the Field PM
  • Assists with performance evaluations for direct Lead-Hands and Assistants

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Post-Secondary Education an asset
  • Horticulture Technology Diploma or Trades Certification an asset

Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Landscape Installation Foreman position or
  • 5+ years in a Landscape Installation Lead-Hand position

Skills

  • Expert mentorship and leadership skills
  • Experience operating skid steers, excavators, dump trucks
  • Ability to coordinate and delegate a series of tasks and assignments to achieve a goal
  • You are detail oriented and like multi-tasking
  • Ability to complete projects within budget and maintain a high rate of customer satisfaction
  • You are able to resolve conflicts without external assistance
  • Ability to manage around tight deadlines and still get the details right
  • Competent in the use of power tools (cut-off saws, plate tampers, jackhammers, skill saws, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape/construction practices
  • Advanced measurement and calculation skills
  • Ability to follow safe working procedures
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and as part of a team
