Now they’re looking for you: their new Manufacturing Engineer to join their team. What you’ll be doing: As the new Manufacturing Engineer, you will be reporting directly to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering. You will be leading their assigned program(s), providing technical expertise and guidance on process and equipment issues, executing improvement initiatives, and ensuring that systems and processes are in place to meet and exceed client’s quality and production objectives safely and efficiently. Practically speaking, you will: Lead New Programs and New or Upgraded Equipment Installation * Lead the implementation of complete process and necessary machine(s)/equipment to achieve production and quality signoff and flawless launch on assigned new programs as per internal and customer standards and requirements * Develop and implement highly optimized process flow and build sequence for welded assemblies with minimum capital, tooling, labor, and footprint * Lead internal CFT review meetings for process center(s) layout and material flow analysis improvements based on lean manufacturing principles * Lead and participate in cross-functional APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) meetings to provide input in DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and GDT (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.) analysis, PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis), control plans, process capability studies, DOE’s (Design of Experiments), poka-yoke, error-proof plans, root cause analysis, lessons learned * Manage equipment and tooling suppliers to monitor progress through quotation, design, build, and installation stages of all new equipment necessary for new programs and improvements or retrofits on current processes and equipment * Lead and coordinate equipment design reviews with supplier(s) and use client standard Design Review and Sign Off Checklist to record open issues and follow up for successful closure * Lead and coordinate all equipment sample runs at supplier(s) and at the client to ensure a successful run at rate milestone completion based on TAKT time, internal AQPQ, and customer PPAP requirements and standards * Evaluate equipment trial runs and buy-offs for new equipment and retrofits and ensure run and rate, PPH (Parts per Hour), and essential safety regulations are met per client, OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Ac), ESA (Employment Standards Act,), and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) standards * Conduct training for associates on new equipment and processes, monitor progress, and ensure timely and effective handover to production and maintenance using client standard Machine Handover Checklist * Establish machine process parameters for all new programs and continuously monitor to improve and optimize * Prepare, release, maintain and update standardized work instructions, operator instructions, job element sheets, troubleshooting guide(s) for equipment Current Programs, Continuous Improvement, and Cost Reduction * Provide technical expertise to production to resolve process capability and quality issues * Review daily shift and quality reports for top process and equipment issues. Discuss with the Operations manager, production supervisor, and lead hand on resolving the issues. * Review machine and shop capacity and provide ideas for optimum use of capital, line balancing, and lead VA/VE (Value analysis/value engineering) initiatives * Lead process and equipment root cause analysis initiatives and implement solutions to improve and sustain OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) to client standards * Maintain an open issues matrix for assigned projects and tasks and ensure timely completion as agreed with the direct manager * Lead and participate in 8D (8D problem solving process), 5 Why’s, RCA (Root cause analysis), CI (Continuous Improvement) meetings for customer complaints, failures and provide appropriate input to resolve issues * Review program profitability and provide ideas to reduce waste in the value chain by effectively utilizing lean manufacturing principles * Work closely with maintenance manager and skill trades team to increase machine uptime, conduct RCA on equipment issues and follow up on closure * Support the implementation of best practices for the department and the development, monitoring, and application of KPI’s (productivity, cost, quality, safety) The Details This is a full-time permanent position. The ideal candidate will be based in the Toronto area. This position offers competitive annual salary, performance bonus, group health benefits, vacation time, and RRSP matching. Some travel may be required. What you’ll bring: * Minimum 7 years of hands-on verifiable manufacturing engineering experience in a metal fabrication environment * Intermediate to expert level knowledge of 3D CAD modeling and AutoCAD * Expertise in MS Office packages (word, excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Visual Basic, Macro’s in Excel * Project management experience; (PMP designation desirable) * Experience in working with semi/fully automated/robotic equipment and PLC logic and troubleshooting (desirable) * Ability to work under extreme demands and tight schedules * Ability to accept directions and change directions as required * Excellent English language, communication, and presentation skills (both verbal and written) * Basic understanding of WHMIS, IMDS, Ergonomics, Healthy and Safety regulations * Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or other relevant post-secondary designation And these are some nice to haves: * P.
