WSP is currently seeking a Junior/Intermediate Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join our Buildings Group within the Dartmouth, NS office. Reporting to the Manager of M and E in the Buildings Business Unit, this is an exciting career opportunity for the right individual with the skills, determination and drive to grow into a senior technical role in the mechanical engineering group. WSP’s Buildings team engages in the design of healthcare, educational, commercial, hospitality, environmental infrastructure, recreational and light industrial facilities.

A day in the life:

  • Participate in the design of plans, preliminary estimations and details for commercial, light industrial, educational, institutional, and healthcare buildings.
  • Design of various building systems including but not limited to plumbing, HVAC, controls, fire protection.
  • Preparation of drawings and specifications, design calculations, and detail development.
  • Preparation of reports, project plans and other supporting documentation as required.
  • Utilize industry specific software and related technologies in design and analysis (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM360, HAP)
  • Responsible for researching and implementing new technology designs as required to meet client’s objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of National, Provincial and Municipal Codes and Standards. Ensures the design documents meet established project criteria and applicable standards. Coordinates the preparation of engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Participates in client management, business development and proposal preparation activities.
  • Contract Administration duties including, but not limited to, shop drawing reviews, answering RFIs, COs, Progress Claims and Site Reviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You will ensure compliance with WSP policies, practices, procedures and protocols.
  • You will develop and implement design and production standards related to our engineering practice.

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • Technologist diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Code.
  • Must be able to complete the majority of project work independently, with coordination and resources from other offices.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and independent environment.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You currently hold or able to obtain a secret level security clearance.
  • Must have excellent leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with a strong desire and ability to collaborate and problem solve in an integrated team environment.
