The Mechanical Engineering Technologist is responsible for the design & development of new products as well as the support of existing product lines. This individual manages several projects simultaneously and is responsible for the overall success of projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports existing product lines. Does modifications to existing products according to customer’s specific needs.
  • Reviews customer’s order requirements and ensures all information required exists for the manufacture of the products.
  • Develops new designs for new product lines according to customer’s specific needs.
  • Communicates regularly with customers to ensure that their needs are met and addresses potential issues arising.
  • Communicates regularly with manufacturing. Makes sure that designs are as cost effective as possible. Ensures that all designs and drawings are up to date with current fabrication processes. Looks to continuously improve the features and cost effectiveness of a design.
  • Production and maintenance of all fabrication drawings
  • Ensures accuracy of bill of materials (BOM) and fabrication procedures.
  • Gains knowledge of customer manufacturing processes to support decision making.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Detail-orientated, well organized and have good troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have flexibility and adaptability in constantly changing situations.
  • Must have positive attitude and ability to deal with setbacks.
  • Open to positive and constructive feedback. Must be able to take input from a range of sources and incorporate them into the best design possible.
  • Ability to make quick decisions.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Engineering Degree
  • Previous Solidworks experience.
  • Good working knowledge of design tables and sheet metal parts.
  • Solid knowledge of MRP system.
  • Intermediate computer skills with MS Office, MS Project, file management etc.
  • Experience in the design of weldments, machined parts and sheet metal parts.
  • Experience in relative costing of various manufacturing processes.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment.
  • Must adhere to all safety practices and procedures and work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Receives moderate supervision with less frequent direction and review of the work performed.
  • Valid BC Driver’s license and own transportation.
