Job Overview

Job title: Mechanical Engineering

Job description: Job offers:

From the C2MI facilities in Bromont, you will work closely with our design, microfabrication, electronics, and packaging teams to develop and improve various custom processes and products. The successful candidate will mainly work in our central office (Montreal area) or in the Eastern Township area (Bromont), and have to travel from time to time to other facilities (Quebec/Ontario).

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Design, draw, develop and improve mechanical structures, micro-assemblies and the various devices intended for the packaging of the company’s optical and micro-electronic products. The same will apply to the silicon photonics dice characterization stations and several product tests.
  • Carry out the parametric 3D assembly design in Solidworks as well as the realization of 2D engineering plans (technical drawings of parts) for documentation and submission to suppliers.
  • Carry out studies of mechanical and thermal behavior by means of finite element simulation and perform the experimental characterization.
  • Participate in the assembly of the necessary prototypes, which includes the selection and purchase of components, as well as mechanical and optical tests if required.
  • Hold and participate in design reviews.
  • Review and simulate both active and passive photonic devices, as well as de-embedding design parameters experimentally.
  • Provide mechanical expertise to a multidisciplinary development team consisting of optical, Silicon Photonics, IC, reliability, manufacturing/process, and test engineering.
  • Design mechanical aspects of microelectronic packages & modules, integrating elements of mechanical, thermal, reliability, electrical, manufacturing and test.
  • Generate product documentation including, custom part drawings, assembly drawings, engineering bill of materials (BOM), common feature drawings and process flows.
  • Define specifications/requirements for outsourced custom components and coordinate/interface with manufacturers/suppliers.
  • Perform engineering product verification to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Any other task associated to the development of the start-up.

Required profile:

  • Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or relevant field of study. A master’s degree would be an advantage.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing. Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Observer, attention to detail, teamwork, and organized person.
  • Experience with design and modeling techniques using analytical and FEM tools (eg. CoventorWare/ANSYS) and CAD tools (preferably Solidworks)

Would be an asset:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical assembly
  • Characterization of mechanical, optical, and electrical materials: stress, fatigue, surface profile, stress profile, temperature profile, electrical conductivity, mechanical, …
  • Experience in RF isolation and optical package of interest
  • Micro optical assemblies, fiber optic processes, optoelectronic technologies, related materials, solders, adhesives, related components, and manufacturing methods
  • Comprehensive tolerance analysis and simulation using knowledge of assembly, component, and processing variances.
  • Industry standard qualification and reliability requirements (MIL-Spec, Telecordia)
  • Micro-optic/electronic assembly technologies such as pick and place, die bonding, various flip chip process, wire bonding, lens/fiber/optics alignment, laser welding, glass sealing, UV curing and all associated tooling.
