Nipissing Poverty Reduction through Education Program (NPREP) Navigator – North Bay, ON

This role is a unique opportunity to build relationships and support recipients of Ontario Works to overcome employment barriers through education. If you’re up to the challenge, read on.

This full-time role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the NPREP Program at Canadore College, North Bay Campus, to ensure quality educational and vocational support, through the effective and efficient delivery of established programs and services.

We are looking for a dynamic, confident, and reliable individual that is eager to learn and who is highly adaptable and able to empower students with their educational navigation support and career preparation.

As an NPREP Navigator, you will:

• Execute campaigns aimed at redirecting clients of Ontario Works from the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) caseload into post-secondary programs
• General knowledge of the full range of programs delivered by DNSSAB including: Ontario Works, Child Care and Social Housing
• Work with service providers to explore and establish new mechanisms to support students in non-traditional manners and build sustainable relationships
• Meet with students, one-on-one, to assist with resume building, interview preparation and provide some coaching to help students develop their skill sets and knowledge regarding adaptation to the Canadian workforce
• Assists students in identifying barriers to employment
• Assists students in the development of appropriate work habits, behaviours and attitudes for the workplace
• Monitoring student progress (grades/attendance), maintaining regular contact with at risk students
• Facilitate employment-related workshops, as required
• Ensure the students job board is up to date with current job postings reflecting the programs that are offered in North Bay, Ontario
• General knowledge of the full range of services offered at Canadore College
• Assist students with their Funding Applications: OSAP, band, Second Career, Sponsorship
• Oversee & assign work to our work study students in the NPREP & PSW program
• Performing other related duties, as assigned

To take on the role of NPREP Navigator, you must:

• Possess a post-secondary diploma
• Be able to effectively time manage and have the ability to multi-task
• Have well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with students, staff and employers
• Have awareness/knowledge of student challenges
• Have experience as a career mentor (asset)
