The Connection Systems business unit manufactures heat-shrinkable products such as walled tubing of various thickness, sleeves and molded products. Most of these products are used in petrochemical and industrial markets. They also offer wire and cable products for several kinds of applications such as instrumentation or control.

The Process Improvement (PI) Engineer is accountable for leading process improvement initiatives and the delivery of world class process design and process improvement to support business activities at the CSG Toronto site. The PI Engineer ensures a safe and healthy workplace for employees while delivering annual new process introductions, operational costs savings, and capacity improvements. The PI Engineer supports implementation of the Shawcor Management System (SMS) through continuous improvement activities increasing plant and office process efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, and eliminating process variability and wastes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute business process improvement initiatives utilizing SMS and other World Class Manufacturing techniques.
  • Support development and execution of the annual process improvement roadmap SMS Master Plan or other relevant tool.
  • Develop, implement, and validate manufacturing process & equipment improvements which increase the cost effectiveness and capacity of the manufacturing operation.
  • Develop, implement, and validate process improvements which increase the cost effectiveness and capacity of the office functions.
  • Support manufacturing issue resolution through application of sound problem solving methodologies (A3, 8D, etc).
  • Ensure adherence to engineering documentation and quality management system standards through the improvement process.
  • Increase employee engagement through effective human relations activities and project management techniques.
  • Lead CI team initiatives engaging and aligning cross functional teams towards a business objective.
  • Provide training to employees on all shifts to support new product/process introductions.
  • Provide performance feedback to functional managers regarding individual team member performance.
  • Keep current on latest technology in wire & cable and shrinkable tubing manufacturing through participation in conferences, trade shows, etc.

EDUCATION & MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Cable design and plastics extrusion manufacturing experience with extensive knowledge of QA systems & controls.
  • Proficient in mechanical CAD software preferably in Solidworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve measurable results in a positive, collaborative, and fun environment.
  • Training and experience in Lean/Six Sigma preferred (A3 Problem Solving, FMEA, 5S, DMP).
  • Excellent planning, time management, collaboration, decision making and organization.
  • Possess strong team player skills and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Good computer literacy over a broad range of applications including MS Office suite.
  • Candidates with exposure to plastic/composite production and with an industrial background will be preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written/verbal).
  • Proven leadership skills and strong process knowledge.
