Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Outpatient and Community Mental Health, the Registered Nurse will provide specialized comprehensive services to the Outpatient Mental Health Program at SNH providing counselling and support to Outpatients, and administering long-acting neuroleptic medications. This role will be primarily based out of the 1225 Kennedy Satellite Site, however must be flexible to work at all SHN locations, should the need arise.

Requirements:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Current CPR/BCLS certificate and evidence of continued education required
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience in a mental health setting working with clients who require careful monitoring and evaluation of the effects of psychotropic medication and neuroleptic long acting depot medications
  • Current clinical skills and experience to assess, plan, develop, co-ordinate and provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services to program clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses
  • Experience and belief in the value of working in and committing to a fully integrated multidisciplinary team and interdisciplinary model, including clinical guidance and peer support
  • Good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated superior decision-making and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word 95, Power Point
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN′s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
