University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The scope of research and complexity of cases at UHN have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. Research across UHN’s seven research institutes spans the full spectrum of diseases and disciplines, including cancer, cardiovascular sciences, transplantation, neural and sensory sciences, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation sciences, and community and population health. .
A Research Technician II position is available in the Schroeder Arthritis Institute at the University Health Network. Main responsibilities include: compiling data; applying technical knowledge and skills to performs moderately complex laboratory procedures and experiments; interpreting and performing analyses, monitoring and maintaining lab supplies, maintaining inventories of reagents, maintaining experimental data records, and assisting with ethics, animal protocol submissions and approvals, assisting with budget management, reporting and dispensation.
Qualifications
- At minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Cellular Biology, Engineering (Chemical or Biomedical), Immunology or related discipline; Master’s Degree preferred
- At minimum 3 years related experience
- Experience in cell culture, cell isolation, RNA isolation, quantitative PCR and other molecular biology techniques an asset
- Knowledge of adherent and suspension cell cultures as well as human primary cells such as Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
- Experience writing standard operating procedures
- Any experience working with bioreactors and scaling up manufacturing of biologics or cells is an asset
- Experience in the field of osteoarthritis and corresponding patient-reported outcome measures an asset
- Experience in hospital policies and procedures including contracts, biosafety requirements, import certificates, procurement, invoicing, finance, transportation of dangerous goods, purchasing equipment through RFPs an asset
- Background in GLP or GMP an asset
- A high degree of motivation, reliability, and independence
- Must be collaborative and willing to work closely with other members of the research team
- Follows established guidelines, procedures, and standards
- Good problem-solving skills, and critical thinking
- Excellent organization skills
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent competency in written and verbal communication
