In anticipation of future project demands, WSP invites experienced Construction Planning professionals to submit their resume.
Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, this position will be a support to the construction manager and project manager in area of project planning and scheduling to start and might be invited to continue supporting the team with management of changes, project monitoring and project controls reporting. Specialized in construction planning in the mining field of expertise, the senior/lead planner main role will be supporting the project manager and construction establishing a realistic and effective construction plan, develop a detailed schedule, create a progress measurement baseline (PBM) and develop the monitoring process required during the execution phase of the project. The successful candidate will also be required to generate initial schedule based on the work awarded, develop detailed schedule and create schedule impacts scenarios (before and after), maintain baselines, provide inputs to schedule variance analysis as well as support the business development team with scheduling needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interactive planning session(s) with the area / team leads to establish a PMB;
- Develop different level of schedule for the project as well as supporting the business development group during the proposal phase;
- Able to perform critical path analysis to determine which deliverable have float and which cannot slip schedule;
- Mentor junior and intermediate staff;
- Manage internal and external client expectations and coach others in effective negotiation;
- Ability to work with internal and external client to create integrated EPC/client schedules;
- Coordinating the activities of the schedulers in the performance of their assigned tasks;
- Timely identification, notification, optimization and recording of schedule scenarios supporting trends items that have potential for future impact within project scope;
- Assisting in the improvement of the management of changes procedures;
- Provide technical support and work collaboratively with Project Managers to ensure that the project schedule scenarios (what if) are developed to satisfaction;
- Maintain the master schedule baseline for engineering, procurement and construction activities;
- Work in close collaboration with other department to prepare consistent outputs;
- Prepare schedule scenarios for trends and scope change with Project Team regarding project activities;
- Convey an understanding of project evolution and serve as a preventative mechanism for unforeseen cost and schedule impacts;
- Plan staffing and project hours to ensure necessary resources are available and appropriately assigned for both approved and proposed work;
- Evaluate impact of the project trends for cost and schedule, provide most accurate total impacts by ensuring inclusion of all cost categories (engineering, material, equipment, construction) and schedule impacts;
- Ensure all project/discipline related risks are raised;
- Record risk items, update, and maintain risk register.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate with a minimum 10 years of experience as a Construction Planner;
- Experience in mining projects is a must;
- Experience with Primavera P6 a must;
- Valuable experience in construction planning in other types of project is considered an asset;
- Understanding management of changes implications;
- Understanding Earned Value Management guiding principles considered a plus;
- Must be able to analyze the effect of schedule performance on project completion;
- Must be flexible and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
- Attention to detail is critical;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
