Job title: Senior Mining Technology Specialist

Job description: Reporting to the Manager Mining Technology, the Senior Mining Technology Specialist is accountable for having frequent interaction with personnel at our various mining operations and offices, including mine operations, maintenance, and concentrator facilities. The candidate will be accountable for the timely preparation and implementation of safe, efficient, and practical projects. The ability to think clearly and justify technical rationale in a fast-paced environment is a prerequisite to this challenging and rewarding position. As such, strong reporting, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial.
This role is based at the Technical Services Trail (TST) facility in British Columbia. Technical Services Trail provides expert technical consulting and technology development services across Teck’s entire business. Technical Services Trail works in cross-functional, collaborative teams made up of employees from the company and key external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
Responsibilities :

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures. Establish and promote the maintenance and continual improvement of a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible working environment through Teck’s Environmental Health & Safety System and policies.
  • Broaden Teck’s network related to the operational and technical aspects of applying technology and good practices in the mining industry.
  • Participate in external open innovation/technology development organizations and projects as requested.
  • Effectively communicate key messages and recommendations by authoring high-quality reports and delivering an effective presentation to all company levels.
  • Identify technologies of interest to Teck and its operations.
  • Identify and promote best practices in mining.
  • Initiate new projects as suitable opportunities are identified.
  • Provide overall continuous improvement support to the Business Units, including facilitating project implementation, change management, and ensuring initiatives are locked in.

Qualifications :

  • Graduate degree in Mining, Electrical or Software Engineering or other relevant science or engineering degree from a recognized university. A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant, progressive experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of the application of technology to mine operations is required.
  • Skills and experience in developing and executing technical projects are required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently is key.
  • The ability to produce high-quality written technical reports is required.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish.
  • A history of technology-based innovation and implementation is an asset.
  • Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Should have or be eligible for professional registration with relevant organizations.
