About the Team Workday is looking for an outstanding Senior or Principal Software Engineer to join our Performance Engineering team!
Performance Engineers are highly skilled engineers who debug, measure, analyze, and improve our Workday software. They are software developers with deep technical understanding of software, distributed systems, cloud computing, cloud technologies, deployment, hardware, networking, and the Internet. We work closely with our engineering teams throughout the release cycle with the ultimate goal of application performance that yields an excellent end user experience and scales to meet Software as a Service Infrastructure needs.
About the Role
The team is responsible for system performance and stability by proactively identifying and diagnosing issues and rapidly identifying root causes to address production issues.
You’ll collaborate with engineers and technical product managers to analyze functional requirements, devise architecture designs that provide real scalability, low latency, and high availability. You’ll contribute ideas for continually improving the team’s efficiency & work enjoyment, as well as provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers.
About You
We’re open to hiring a Senior- or Principal-level engineer for this position.
Basic Qualifications (Senior)
8+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or 5+ years with a Master’s degree
3+ years in performance engineering and benchmarking large scale systems & applications
3+ years working with and understanding the internals of distributed systems & associated tools (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Presto, Kubernetes)
Basic Qualifications (Principal)
11+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or 8+ years with a Master’s degree
3+ years in performance engineering and benchmarking large scale systems & applications
3+ years working with and understanding the internals of distributed systems & associated tools (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Presto, Kubernetes)
Other Qualifications
Familiarity with the internals of JVMs, performance profiling and optimization
Experience in analyzing thread dumps & memory dumps for bottlenecks
Experience in large scale benchmarks and problem solving
Ability to distill volumes of data, analyze performance results, and diagnose performance problems
