The Supervisor, Health Information Management, Royal Alexandra Hospital and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, performs a leadership role in Health Information Management Division and reports directly to the Manager, Health Information Records management – Edmonton Zone and Area. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the directions, team leadership and organization over the activities of Health Information Records Management and to provide practice guidance to the staff in support of the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services. This position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of Health Information Records Management.

Description:

The Supervisor, Health Information Management is responsible for Management of the health information/record (regardless of the medium) to ensure content compliance, completeness and availability for patient care, teaching, research, administrative and legal purposes in accordance with HIM standards. Direct and indirect supervision of the Health Information/Records Management staff by leading and guiding the staff to ensure quality care and services. Ensuring efficient supervision of staff by leading and guiding the staff to ensure quality care and services. Collaborating with other Supervisors in Health Information Management ensuring local service deliver meets HIM standards and strategic priorities. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Acts as HIM Supervisor On-Call on a rotational basis to provide after-hours support for staffing, and response to urgent or emergency issues.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years in a management/supervisory capacity, ideally in a healthcare organization of significant size, complexity and diversity required. Other post-secondary education and/or experience may be considered. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Additional Required Qualifications:

Exceptional leadership with effective communication and ability to influence actions and outcomes. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and inspire while operating within a diverse team environment. Successful management of human resource issues, preferably within a unionized environment. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Fostering collaborative partnerships with other disciplines at all levels of the organization. Adapting to an evolving environment and modelling positive change. Working under pressure, responding to changing priorities in a highly dynamic environment and meeting deadlines. Effectively managing human, financial and physical resources to meet operational objectives within budget. Comfort in decision making supported by excellent analytical skills, creativity and innovation. Effectively organizing, planning and implementing short and long term plans and projects. Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook). An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment record, interview and references. Experience in record life-cycle management and using electronic health information systems. Experience implementing business transformation strategies the use of technology. Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to graduate of accredited Health Information Management Program with certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Management.
