Job title: Technology Learning Specialist

Job description: As part of the Technology Learning Services team with a focus on Calgary and Vancouver offices, designs and delivers procedural, skills based and technology learning. In addition, facilitates Orientation sessions to Firm personnel, ensuring that all Firm members possess relevant skills, resources and information needed to operate efficiently and effectively and to provide seamless client service to internal and external clients. Serves as team leader for implementations and Firm projects. Acts as Subject Matter Expert on various software applications and provides third level support to the Help Desk, as required.

Major Responsibilities

  • Conducts needs analysis to determine what relevant information to include in learning programs, designs courseware and customizes materials and training sessions.
  • Maintains awareness of changes to Firm processes and procedures, assesses impact of change, and identifies and incorporates related regional requirements and Western insights
  • Maintains and updates all relevant learning materials and resources
  • Delivers Technology Orientation for new staff, including Legal Professionals, Legal Assistants, Law Students, and all other roles primarily in the Calgary and Vancouver offices
  • Provides support to Firm members to solve complex problems that require more in-depth knowledge of certain applications (Word, Excel, iManage, etc.) and promotes best practices in work processes
  • Represents Technology Learning Services as an active member of Firm Project teams. Acts as Learning team leader in rollouts and other projects, working with stakeholders including Professional and Client Development
  • Evaluates effectiveness of learning by facilitating meetings for recent hires, re-assesses training needs, arranges for additional training, and adjusts or updates programs as required
  • Performs Operational Reviews by observing, auditing and evaluating the performance of Firm members and creating a Plan of Action to increase competency levels or address performance issues

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

The position requires a community college diploma or university degree coupled with completion of adult training courses plus formal training in the design and delivery of adult training programs or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Law firm experience an asset.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills required to provide learning and Orientation to new employees
  • Proficiency with latest MS Office Suite, virtual meeting platforms, Adobe products, Windows OS. Knowledge of legal applications such as iManage and Litera an asset
  • Ability to develop e-learning using Captivate, Camtasia, or similar software an asset
  • Strong client service focus with ability to develop professional relationships across all levels within the Firm
  • Ability to work within a team-based multi-office environment, with occasional need to travel to Vancouver and other Osler offices as required
  • Flexible attitude to alter teaching schedules as required to accommodate varying levels of learning
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and training techniques to effectively teach staff
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to maintain high levels of interest in learning and development initiatives
  • Ability to take initiative in identifying client needs and recommending learning solutions
  • Observational skills to ensure learning is effective and learners are grasping concepts being taught
  • Knowledge of law firm practices, procedures, and environment
  • Current knowledge of technological enhancements, system upgrades and learning methods
  • Ability to develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the Firm’s procedures and processes to effectively teach new and existing staff
