Job title: Turnaround Tank Farm Operator

Job description: The Turnaround Tank Farm Operator will support turnaround NOVA Turnaround Operations activities. The Turnaround Tank Farm Operator will oversee temporary storage of turnaround waste products and assist with the shipping of products from the tank farm.

The Turnaround Tank Farm Operator will be a member of the Operations Turnaround Execution Team and report to the Lead Operations Turnaround Coordinator. Operating instructions will be provided by the Cracking Area Operations coordinator and the NOVA Environmental Waste Specialist. The Turnaround Tank Farm Operator must work closely with the Turnaround Operations, Environmental, and Mechanical Teams

Responsibilities:

Turnaround Pre-work Phase

  • Onboard and build competency in NOVA Joffre Safe Work Procedures and turnaround procedures for control of hazardous energy and permit issuance.
  • Onboard and develop working knowledge of Ethylene One operating and turnaround systems.
  • Complete a temporary turnaround qualification, that once certified will enable the independent operation of equipment aligned to the turnaround tank farm and associated NOVA plant equipment.
  • Support turnaround temporary tank farm installation permit issuance
  • Commission activities for the turnaround tank farm, including leak testing and oxygen free.

Turnaround Execution Phase

  • Receive waste into turnaround tank farm from NOVA facilities and chemical clean vendors.
  • Actively pursue the reduction of spills and unplanned releases in the tank farm area.
  • Coordinate the off load of turnaround waste from trucks into the tank farm.
  • Align shift priorities to meet turnaround schedule progress and critical path.
  • Maintain an accurate log of waste inventory, and volumes.
  • Complete sampling activities and present sample to the NOVA lab facilities for analytical.
  • Independently operate tank farm temporary equipment and assist the loading of waste for offsite disposal as directed by Cracking Area Operations coordinator and the NOVA Environmental Waste Specialist.
  • Operate valves and pumps to transfer/offload/load liquids to/from trucks and tanks.
  • Lift, move and connect hoses.
  • Housekeeping of tank farm; keeping the tank farms(s) clean of drips, leaks, etc., storing items and keeping walkways clear.
  • Follows and adheres to NOVA Chemicals policies and procedures.
  • Report near hits, incidents, spills, and environmental incidents to the NOVA Unit Operations Leader.
  • Initiate containment protocol for spills and leaks
  • Perform gas testing and issue work permits for repair and pm of tank farm equipment.
  • Respond to routine requests for information.
  • Field audit work permits for compliance, and quality.
  • Assist with shift Safety Observations to trend safety in the area.
  • Attend daily shift starter and safety meetings
  • Assists with incident investigations as required by client.

Turnaround Post-Execution Phase

  • Support turnaround temporary tank farm de-con permit issuance
  • De-commission activities for the turnaround tank farm, including final waste removal, and assisting vendor equipment removal.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a minimum: * 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate and 3+ years of Petro-chemical, or Power industry Operations experience. or

  • Journeyman pipefitter trade certification with 4+ years of Petro-chemical, or Power industry Operations experience receiving or issuing work permits.

The following attributes are required:

  • Proven capacity to complete tasks aligned to a complex tank farm.
  • Proven competence related to the issuance/receiving of work permits in an industrial turnaround environment.
  • High level understanding of plant system processes and clean wastes.
  • Ability to read P&ID’s.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to facilitate permit conversations that end with a quality permit issuance.
  • Able to work 6×12 hour day or night shifts.
  • Able to work extended periods of time in a full-face respirator if required by conditions.
  • Embrace respectful workplace conditions.

Ideally, the successful candidate will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Chemical clean experience
  • Vac truck, tank truck experience
  • Turnaround experience
  • Previous experience in a petrochemical asset
  • Familiarity with AER regulation.
