VCA Canada Alta Vista Animal Hospital is seeking a technician/RVT for our Emergency department.

We offer 24-hour emergency and critical care services in our state-of-the-art facility. We have a number of board-certified specialists on staff providing services such as cardiac care, specialized surgical procedures, cancer care, MRI and CT imaging, internal medicine, dermatology and ophthalmology.

Hours of work vary from 8 to 12 hours in length, including days, evening, weekends and overnights.

As a member of the VCA team, your mission will be to win the confidence of every pet parent-by delivering an outstanding client experience-so they will partner with us for the lifelong care of their companion animals. The technical skills that you will be utilizing include, but are not limited to:

Assessment, triage, and, care of ill patients; Hourly treatments including feeding, administering medications, assessing pain/status, restraint, and, lifting; Anesthetics, X-rays, and, laboratory work; Stocking, cleaning, and, maintenance of Emergency area and equipment; Provide lunch coverage for various departments; Math calculations, and, Client updates.

Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations; Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks / projects; Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and teamwork skills; Proven ability to organize, takes initiative, works independently, exercises good judgment; Decision-making and critical thinking skills; Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with professionalism and integrity; Exhibits a positive attitude and uses courtesy, diplomacy and discretion; and, Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality.

Qualifications

Veterinary Technician college diploma; Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral); and, Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift up to 25kg
