The opportunity
EY Orenda Corporate Finance Inc., a specialty practice within EY’s Strategy and Transactions (SaT) business, and is the leading mid-market investment bank in Canada. The practice is recognized as a trusted source of expertise for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, financing, privatization, and valuations and has been advising clients on all aspects of strategic transactions and capital sourcing activities for more than 30 years.
Our M&A team focused on the technology sector is the leading advisor in the mid-market for tech businesses, having closed several marquee transactions over the last 18 months. We are rapidly expanding these tech sector focused M&A capabilities across the country. We are looking for an experienced and motivated M&A professional to join our practice as a Vice President who will help us develop relationships, lead deal execution, and to help build a larger technology M&A team across Canada and within the EY global Tech M&A network.

Your key responsibilities
As a Vice President within our Tech M&A team, you will be part of our M&A business called Ernst & Young Orenda Corporate Finance Inc. (“EYO”) and will have the opportunity to work alongside of our other practices within our Strategy and Transactions practice. EYO is recognized as a trusted source of expertise for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, financing, valuations, privatization, and capital sourcing transactions.
Skills and attributes for success
- Collaborate with other service lines within EY, both within our Strategy and Transactions (SaT) business and across the Firm’s Assurance, Tax and Consulting businesses to deliver outstanding professional advice to our clients.
- Take an autonomous lead role in identifying, soliciting and exploring potential new business opportunities
- Lead and project manage complex acquisition, merger, divestiture or financing assignments, including taking a lead role in client relationship management
- Provide direction and oversight on research to be used in financial modeling, competitive analysis, industry analysis, negotiation support and various other applications
- Review and provide quality assurance on complex financial models within broadly defined guidelines
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of documents for, and presentations to, clients and prospects
- Manage staff teams of 2-3 professionals and assume developmental responsibility for junior staff
- Proactively develop an internal and external network within the local market
- Participate in the development and execution of industry-specific thought leadership and business plans
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Minimum 7-8 years of experience in financial analysis and transaction/financing execution, in the technology sector (i.e. M&A, Private Equity, Investment Banking or Corporate Development).
- Undergraduate degree in business with concentration in finance and/or accounting supported by a CPA, CFA, CBV or MBA
- Understanding of key business drivers, business strategy, metrics and deal issues for technology businesses
- Track record of helping develop new business, and boardroom presence
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills and financial modeling
- Strong knowledge of financing capital structuring and strong negotiation / lead advisory skills
- Experience working in small teams and developing/coaching/mentoring junior-level staff
- Experience working with multiple internal / external advisors within the context of a transaction and coordinated various workstreams (i.e. lawyers, accountants, tax and other specialists, etc…)
- U.S. Broker Dealer license and Canadian Securities Institute licensing are or will be required
- Previous M&A experience in a professional services/Big 4 Firm or investment bank and direct experience working with private businesses
