Scope and Responsibilities
The Vice President of Engineering will be the senior most engineering executive at Daniel Defense and will be accountable for New Product Development (NPD) and Manufacturing Engineering (ME). The mission is to transform the engineering function into one that is efficient and effective while continuing to promote product innovation.
As Daniel Defense describes itself as a “New Product Development Company”, this position is a pivotal role in the organization and a staple of its business DNA. The company prides itself with being a forward-thinking engineering company that pushes the envelope with attention to detail on every component.

Our successful candidate will hold himself/herself personally accountable for the level of work generated by the team and will not be satisfied with anything other than the highest results.
Specifically, our successful candidate will:
- Develop and execute the path to transform the engineering function into one that is collaborative, rooted in best of breed processes, transparent and efficient.
- Ensure that the newly transformed Engineering group establishes a solid foundation of collaboration between NPD and ME, as well as with other functions.
- Work across the organization to break down siloes, establish transparent planning, set clear expectations and position the NPD function as one that designs for manufacturing.
- Create a culture rooted in innovation, uncompromising quality, and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including collaboration between NPD and ME, to develop and manufacture the best products on the market.
- Establish him/herself as the engineering expert. Be seen as the go-to person for design and engineering questions.
- Align Daniel Defense’s product strategies to achieve business goals and objectives.
- Stay current with industry trends. He or she will be up to date with the armament and outdoor industries and adjacent markets/products.
- Be a working leader. Lead the team by example. Set the strategy with clear goals but also not be afraid to get hands dirty when needed.
- Be responsible for the engineering budget and resource management.
- Actively advocates innovation and drive continuous improvement.
Success in the first year includes:
- Learn Daniel Defense’s business and culture. Develop relationships and earn trust across the organization.
- Build strong NPD and ME teams. Review and assess the current teams and organizations and make changes as necessary.
- Ensure that the product launches scheduled for 2022 are on target, schedule and within budget.
- Assess and redesign Engineering workflows.
- Establish new and improved Project Management processes by implementing SolidWorks Manage.
- Develop Daniel Defense ME standards for Capital, NPD and Automation Projects.
The Person
Qualifications & Experience
- Our ideal candidate will be a talented engineering leader who has a flawless track record leading product development and manufacturing engineering teams, preferably in the armament, outdoor sports, or tool industries but also adjacent industries.
- Specifically, he or she:
- 10-15 years of experience in engineering product development with 5 years of management experience related to leading engineering teams, programs and/or projects (engineering management, project mgmt., program management).
- Experience successfully leading deep transformations in engineering. We seek someone who has a playbook on how to fix/transform/upgrade an engineering function.
- Will be passionate about operating in a LEAN environment. Extra consideration will be given to candidates who have spent their formative years in companies known for their LEAN expertise.
- Experience leading both NPD and ME, but not necessarily both at the same time.
- Will possess a strong process-oriented mindset with the flexibility to adjust as needed. Extra consideration will be given to candidates that have learned from companies recognized for excelling in process and cadence.
- Will demonstrate the ability to manage risk and opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required. Advanced degree or MBA is a plus.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills—ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely with customers and both senior level management and entry level personnel.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic. A self-starter with a “does whatever it takes to get the job done” proactive style and creative approach to work.
- Willing to “roll up the sleeves” and become deeply involved with all aspects of the business and its operations.
- Data driven. We seek a strong leader who uses data to determine course of action.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.
- Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
