How will you help change the landscape of technology and innovative products at Medicago?

Your role:

Reporting to the CFO, the VP of Finance serves in a key operations role within the company and is responsible for developing the strategies and programs for financial budgeting and planning, internal controls, and financial information reporting and analysis. This individual has responsibility for establishing the financial organization systems; including people, computer systems and processes to assure the long-term capabilities of the Finance team and compliance with fiscal, management and IFRS reporting requirements

Your responsibilities:

  • Serve on the Company’s Operating Committee.
  • Design and compliance with monthly and annual financial reporting requirements for both management reporting and IFRS.
  • Responsible for key technical accounting judgments and policies, including oversight, implementation and execution of new IFRS accounting guidance’s.
  • Design and development of cost and project accounting systems.
  • Oversee the Company’s financial internal controls compliance, working to strengthen internal controls and ensure the control environment is operating effectively in a dynamic setting.
  • Design of purchasing programs and oversight of the development of those programs including coordination with quality systems.
  • Determine and develop departmental KPI’s and assure successful achievement of each, including the timely and accurate reporting of KPI’s included in annual and long-term objectives.
  • Assure accurate, timely, pertinent and concise management and shareholder reporting.
  • Anticipate the future needs of the business and process improvement requirements of the financial reporting systems and develop an organization and program capable of meeting same.
  • Act as a key liaison to our external auditors, oversee management of our integrated audit and reviews, and manage external consultant relationships.
  • Support CFO in financing and major project reviews and implementation.
  • Advise key business partners on accounting implications of various transactions including licenses, collaborations, manufacturing, leasing and other agreements
  • Remain engaged in the broader biotech and accounting communities to build awareness to industry best practices and lessons learned

The profile we are looking for:

  • Experience managing a diverse team of CPA and non-CPA professionals required
  • Bachelor or master’s degree in accounting
  • 15+ years of relevant experience required, including 15+ years in an accounting leadership capacity, preferably in the life sciences/biotech industry
  • Ability to deliver key management information to clarify the direction and results of the business.
  • Bilingual in English and French.
  • Great leader who exercises good judgment, promotes and lives Medicago’s values.
  • Possess a passion for data, logic and analysis.
  • Ability to find innovative, uncomplicated solutions and articulate complex accounting issues and report concisely to stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to develop and motivate a high-performing financial support organization.
  • Results oriented.
  • Strong collaborative skills with peers and upper level management.
  • Sound technical skills and demonstrated experience with being effective in multiple environments during career.
  • Effective as a coach/mentor.
  • Drive employee engagement strategies to produce a positive culture that demonstrates Medicago’s values.
  • CPA license preferred.
