Primary Purpose: The Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) requires an experienced project manager to lead institution-wide change initiatives and implement solutions for academic and administrative units that include changes to policy, processes, and technology.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Project Management Office, and supporting other senior leaders from many divisions across campus, the successful candidate will play a key role in advancing institutional change in alignment with strategic priorities. The Senior Project Manager will act as a catalyst for change, inspiring and advising others but listening to and understanding the needs of our partners and clients while overseeing the implementation of changes to holistic systems that integrate with other university enterprise systems.

This position requires a high level of energy, competence, and social acumen. The Senior Project Manager will possess strong analytical skills, excellent project management and change management skills, and well-rounded communication skills. The successful candidate will work under pressure in a fast-paced, self-directed, and team-oriented environment where competing demands require the ability to prioritize, focus and work under tight project timelines. Occasional after-hours or travel will be required.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead, plan, coordinate and execute projects with solutions that align to organizational strategy and enable a high impact organization.
  • Ultimately accountable for the success of the project/change initiative which will be measured by the successful implementation of the plan, stakeholder adoption and sustainment of the change.
  • Consider organizational change and stakeholder impact and develop/implement effective strategies for executing the change initiative.
  • Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams to effectively deliver project plans.
  • Partner with business subject matter experts and procurement professionals to assess the market for best-fit solutions and support the successful execution of procurement activities.
  • Establish consultant/vendor partnerships that support the effective delivery of projects.
  • Develop an effective project governance structure to ensure appropriate institutional oversight, decision-making and risk mitigation.
  • Develop effective strategies and goals to ensure and monitor project success; create and implement action plans; evaluate and report on project results using project management best practices.
  • Provide budget oversight for the project and work with team members and sponsors to identify and manage project risk.
  • Manage the change and effectively communicate project goals, scope, expectations, risks, and issues to project sponsors, team members and stakeholders impacted by the change in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Adopt and promote university and industry-standard project management and change management processes.
  • Act as a representative of the university and positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the university.
  • Contribute to a respectful, collegial, and productive work and learning environment.
  • Design and implement plans which ensure stakeholder adoption and change sustainment.
  • Design a project delivery approach to be flexible in adaptation to institutional changes.
  • Ensure alignment of project/change initiative with the institution, relevant organizational plans, ensuring compliance with institutional requirements: security, privacy and confidentiality, ethics etc.

Education: A university degree in business; a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered. Project management and change management certifications will be considered important assets. A professional project management designation will be required within one year of employment.

Experience:

The following experience is required:

  • A minimum of five years of project management experience, preferably in a large organizational setting.
  • Experience articulating a vision, developing stakeholder needs, facilitating dialogue, managing conflict, and building effective, cooperative, and collegial working relationships in teams with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience successfully delivering projects with institution-wide impact and change.
  • Experience in providing expert advice and counsel to senior business unit leaders and developing strategic partnerships.
  • Experience in producing and maintaining project schedules, business cases, or other required documents and presentations.
  • Experience assembling and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with and managing consultants and vendors.
  • Experience with large change management and business transformation projects.
  • Experience with business process review and revision.

The following experience would be considered an asset:

  • Experience with procurement including managing, negotiating, and executing contracts.
  • Experience negotiating software as a service contract
  • Experience successfully managing the selection and implementation of an enterprise software solution would be considered an asset.
