Your Role:
You are a senior Database Design and Administration practitioner who will be responsible for the sustainability, integrity, availability and security of Enterprise Data. You will also influence the Enterprise database strategy and architecture. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Data Management, you will lead and coach a team of DBAs responsible for database design and administration.
*Note that the position is based in Toronto or Montreal.*
As the Senior Manager of Database Design and Administration, you will:
Lead, coach, mentor and support a team of Database Design and Administration professionals responsible for delivering Enterprise Applications initiatives while promoting agile delivery practices.
Advise, guide and provide expertise in Database Management project planning and development.
Oversee activities related to the delivery of solution development, product support and platform maintenance on a daily, short- and long- term basis.
Manage resources as per budget allocation, target recoverables and priorities for both day-to-day product support and project activities.
Participate in the development and execution of the Enterprise Data strategy (On Prem, Cloud, hybrid).
Work with the Director of Enterprise Data Management to develop and execute a Database technology modernization roadmap. Identify and analyze various options available on the market. Determine and recommend the best strategies.
Be Responsible for communication and consistent reporting on KPIs using established processes and tools for all on-going initiatives.
Participate in the development of strategic plans and roadmaps for Database platforms and technologies considering market trends and industry best practices.
Work in close collaboration with the Application Development, Application Delivery and Business Technology Solutions teams to ensure the on-time, on-budget and on-scope delivery of all Enterprise Applications initiatives (new products, enhancements, application interfaces, etc).
Participate in the negotiation of long-term contractual agreements with service providers.
Participate in the development of business cases and feasibility studies.
Participate in defining the annual software update plans, based on business priorities and technological risks.
Enable and support a team of Database Design and Administration professionals:
Be responsible for workload, professional development, health, safety and well-being at work for each team member.
Conduct regular department staff meetings to address issues and continuously improve overall quality of services and deliverables.
Conduct staff performance evaluations with input from other Managers.
Promote good communication, collaboration, excellence and a healthy work environment.
Qualifications
What You Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent.
Ten or more years of experience in Database Design and Administration
Three or more years of experience in a leadership / management role.
Knowledge of Oracle, MS SQL and MongoDB (or other unstructured databases) – both On Prem and Cloud – is required.
Experience and knowledge of Digital Transformation (Cloud Architecture)
PMP or SCRUM certification is an asset.
Strong experience with the Atlassian suite.
Creativity and Innovation.
Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Good general knowledge and intellectual curiosity (acquire and develop new knowledge and skills).
Analytical mind and open-minded approach to problem solving.
Ability to manage bilingual/remote teams.
Ability to travel between Toronto and Montreal;
Bilingualism (English and French) is a requirement.
