As a Food Service Worker – Starbucks Barista at VCH you will:
Reporting to the Coordinator and/or the Manager, Food Services, and with work direction from the Food Service Supervisor, and/or the Cook, the Food Service Worker – Starbucks Barista carries out a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards.
- Portion and serve meals.
- Assist with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruit.
- Prepare coffee/tea and toast, portion desserts and assemble sandwiches and salads.
- Prepare and portion diet items in accordance with nutritional plans.
- Measure and combine food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree.
- Check patient/resident meals/trays to ensure dietary accuracy.
- Strip wagons/trays, wash dishes and pots, clean food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges and storage areas and wipe down tables and counter areas.
- Sweep and damp mop floors and remove garbage.
- Deliver wagons/trays to patient/resident units.
- Retrieve and store food items.
- Replenish food, beverage and paper supplies.
- Preform related clerical duties.
- Operate a cash register and related equipment, receive payments and provide change for items purchased.
- Answer customer queries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Food Safe Certificate Level 1.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
