Reporting to the Supervisor Automation, Water Quality Management (WQM), the Automation Specialist, WQM is responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning instrumentation and control systems for water treatment projects and operations that drive value to Teck. The successful candidate will work as part of the Water Quality Processing Department to safely deliver and maintain a diverse set of technology that is redefining the way Teck operates its water treatment systems. This is a site-based position that will involve a blend of office and field work within our water operations.

Water Operations’ goal is to operate the Active Water Treatment Facility (AWTF), Saturated Rock Fill (SRF), and calcite operations efficiently as part of Teck’s overall dedication to meet the requirements of EMA permit 107517 and the .

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work as a part of a highly collaborative team with a focus on delivering value, providing emergency support to resolve complex technical problems
  • Define, implement, support, and continuously improve cutting edge systems that optimize safety, sustainability, and efficiency
  • Adhere to departmental change control policies and procedures
  • Work with plant engineers, external vendors, operators, and management to coordinate projects and assignments
  • Understand and develop control systems from engineering documents such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, control narratives, cause and effect, and alarm and setpoint List
  • Provide design and implementation support to operations improvement projects and MOCs
  • Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interface, including Allen-Bradley, Wonderware System Platform, and other PLC platforms
  • Develop and maintain documentation of standards, best practices, and new initiative

Qualifications:

  • Degree, Diploma, or Ticket in a related discipline with an automation focus
  • Minimum three years of experience working on industrial process control systems, programming PLC and HMI Systems
  • Experience with Wonderware System Platform is required; experience with Rockwell PLC is desirable
  • Experience with commissioning and startup of facilities
  • Ability to understand and develop control systems from engineering documents such as P&ID’s, control narratives, and function diagrams
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop and server Operating Systems, virtualization, Active Directory, and computer networking fundamentals
  • Valid class five drivers’ license
