Job description: Four Seasons is looking for a Corporate Director of Engineering to join the Design and Construction team based in the Corporate Office Toronto reporting to Vice President MEP Engineering. This Corporate Director of Engineering will provide oversight, leadership and accountability for facilities, engineering and maintenance operational performance to achieve the financial, strategic, and operational goals of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and protect the physical assets of all ownership groups.
This role will collaborate with the SVP Rooms and Area Presidents to identify and implement the most effective and efficient Engineering support business model to accommodate Four Seasons growth requirements. The Corporate Director of Engineering will also coordinate with the Regional DOEs and property Directors to establish the necessary protocol, maintenance procedures, and standards of execution to ensure proper maintenance of our properties.
Position Outline
The duties for a Corporate DOE essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties or projects may be assigned as presented by SVP Operations and Area Presidents
- Identify, develop, document, and implement the operational policies, procedures, plans and programs for the Engineering/Maintenance Departments.
- Establishes protocol for P&P review and audit compliance for all hotel Engineering Departments relating to the operation and maintenance of all buildings and systems, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
- Document, coordinate and ensure compliance of preventive maintenance programs of all building equipment and guest rooms, public areas, and back of house areas of all hotels
- Oversee complete building and facilities audits program; by updating existing Audit program; and ensuring audits are conducted at all hotels according to the prescribed timeline.
- Provide oversight and support for Four Seasons Operating Budget and Capital Expenditure Process including budgeting, forecasting, bidding, and selection of potential contractors. Documents full Capital process for Four Seasons including 10-year Capital planning for all FS hotels.
- Direct involvement in all Projects over $50,000 (including all property renovations and system upgrades)
- Identify, develop, document, and implement an Energy Conservation program at all hotels to minimize utility costs, and support utilities purchasing agreements.
- Ensure company approved “Energy Star” or equivalent dashboard is known and utilized.
- Coordinate Energy audit program for all properties and establish a defined measurement tool to gauge energy usage.
- Participate in development of comprehensive Safety Program for Four Seasons Hotels – including safety awareness; training; incident tracking and management
- Identify, Develop, and Implement a consistent format for Crisis Management and Emergency Preparedness manuals at all hotels with appropriate BCP (business continuity plans) and procedures.
- Negotiate system wide engineering contracts with third party vendors on behalf of Four Seasons Hotels (e.g. Elevator maintenance contracts; hood cleaning; HVAC cleaning; laundry equipment maintenance; etc.).
- Leverage relationships with Ecolab, Nalco and other globally approved vendors.
- Identify, develop, and implement P&Ps to support operational programs supporting Engineering Operations (e.g. HotSos; EMS; Saflok; Lutron; CMMS Critical Maintenance Management Systems, InnCom)
- Interview and approve all Director of Engineering hires
- Create development pipeline and succession planning/system for future DOEs, through training, mentoring and effective engagement with Asst DOEs.
- Identify, develop, and implement required safety, technical, MSDS/HACCP programs and OSHA training at all hotels. System and auditing program in place to ensures the building / property complies with all government codes and regulations and keeps all applicable licenses and certificates of operation current and up to date.
- Hotel Staffing Models – review all hotels engineering and maintenance staffing models and consult with General Managers to identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings
Educational Qualifications
- Required Bachelor’s Degree and preference would be Bachelor of Science in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Related Professional Certification is a plus
Experiences
- 10-15 years’ experience Corporate/Regional Facility Management with focus in physical site operations, facilities management, or a related field.
- Firm understanding of construction codes, practices and standards, Indoor Air Quality analysis and indoor environmental management issues related to Real Estate property operations.
- Experience with computerized building automation systems, real time energy monitoring systems as well as computerized maintenance management systems.
- Knowledge of Energy Star Labelling of buildings and the USGBC LEED certification programs. LEED AP certified preferred.
- Project management experience related to the upgrading and/or replacement of major building systems.
- Experience with central plant maintenance (chillers; boilers; two pipe; four pipe; water treatment; etc.) and the operating and maintenance of older buildings and systems.
- Hotel experience preferred
Competencies and Functional Skills
- Ability to make sound business recommendations or decisions on assigned responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to present complex data in order to facilitate analysis and decision-making
- Strong knowledge of HotSOS
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and CAD is required
- Knowledge of union environments and contracted labour a plus.
- Computer literacy at high level to include Microsoft Windows environment, Excel, Word, Access, etc.
