Corporate Treasury finds the best ways for BMO to deploy its financial resources within regulatory guidelines and the Enterprise’s risk appetite. The Treasury function plays a key role in the management of the bank’s liquidity, funding, capital, and allocation of financial resources to align with the bank’s overall strategy and to ensure the bank is resilient in its ability to carry out its activities. Treasury teams are strategically focused, have a collaborative nature and possess strong problem-solving skills.

Liquidity and Funding Management within Corporate Treasury leverages big data platforms to measure, analyze, oversee the Bank’s internal and regulatory liquidity and funding risks that arise from global business activities; and make recommendations to improve the use of financial resources.

The individual will work closely with senior management and will partner with businesses to develop a solid understanding of strategies and data management practices across a large number of retail and commercial banking, and trading activities. In addition, they will create a culture where data is managed as a valuable corporate asset.

  • Develop, implement and provide guidance on data strategies, tactics, products and a curated data model to achieve objectives.
  • Monitors and reports on data management requirements and compliance issues, impacts and resolution status to leadership and data governance team.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor on data governance and data management matters.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Supports the assessment, root cause analysis, and formulating proposed solutions/remediation strategies.
  • Escalates data and compliance issues.
  • Assists in the development of strategic plans.
  • Implements, maintains and reviews processes to ensure quality and integrity of data and ensure compliance with Bank and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs quality assurance activities to ensure handling, storage, and collection of data complies with Bank Policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads and oversees the identification, analysis and resolution of issues, recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to identify business requirements and opportunities for improved data management, data architecture, and delivery.
  • Supports the management of BMO’s data as a key asset that facilitates effective decision making.
  • Analyzes structured and unstructured data to support the design and development of a business / group curated data model.
  • Contributes to the development of business/group data strategies and data governance policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Develops data solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.
  • Identifies and implements the optimum means to collect, process, analyze and report on information and ensure ongoing accuracy, integrity and security.
  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensures alignment.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 3 – 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Skilled in working with BI tools such as PowerBI and/or AWS products, relational databases and Hadoop-based data mining frameworks
  • Skilled in working with SQL/HQL and Python/PySpark; Java and C/C++ a plus
  • Knowledge of the AWS platform (SageMaker, QuickSight, EMR) a plus
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis environments a plus (e.g. R, MATLAB, SPSS or SAS)
  • Problem solving and outcome focussed mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Energetic, personable, and achievement- and outcome-oriented
