Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Agriculture Officer, the Agronomy Innovation Capability Director, will develop, align and lead the execution of the McCain Agronomy Innovation & Capability Strategy and related work plans, including working closely with the regions to evaluate their agronomy innovation and capability plans, status and progress, understand their agronomy challenges, identify and transfer appropriate solutions. Identify regional knowledge gaps against the future vision and strategy, and develop the capability within the teams to deliver on the agriculture strategy. Act as an enabler for all strategic pillars, bringing together the science and innovation which feeds into all other pillars.
Act as the safety coordinator within Agriculture and the regions, enabling the safety knowledge transfer, and promoting safety policies and procedures. Chair the global Agriculture safety committee.

Responsibilities:

• Develop the Global McCain strategy and action plans for Agronomy Innovation and capability, work with leaders to develop and align regional strategies and plans, and drive execution and actions within the regions.
• Deliver Agronomy Innovation to create a competitive advantage to McCain.
• Work with regional Ag leaders and their agronomists to benchmark current capability, status vs regional & global best in-class agronomy practices, identify new opportunities and solutions and support the regions in executing their action plans.
• Review and provide input into the regions research and farm demonstration trials, and advise on strategy to roll out at scale regionally.
• Develop and maintain a strong external potato and agriculture network to bring outside agronomy innovation into the business and be able to provide guidance and recommendations to all regions and functions.
• Identify potential agronomy innovation breakthroughs through industry and academia expert network.
• Create partnerships with university or industry partners to develop practical innovative solutions, validate Proof of Concepts and support the regions to drive scale up of the most promising ones.
• Lead the Agronomy capability building agenda for McCain Agriculture.
• Be the point of contact with global safety to implement the company safety strategy, promote safety policies and procedures, and chair the global Agriculture safety committee.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree or PhD in Agronomy Science is required
• Minimum of 5 years of potato experience/ applied science
• Expert knowledge in plant and soil science and experimental design
• Experience in building capability and knowledge transfer; e.g. creating training or onboarding
• Excellent communicational skills
• Experience with new technologies and innovation and successful scale up of agronomy innovation
• Experience working with potato in multiple geographies
