Your opportunity:

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest academic unit in the Faculty of Medicine, with 830 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 20 specialty and sub-specialty divisions located across six fully affiliated hospitals, four community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. DOM is a powerhouse of medical research, with more than $162-million in annual research funding. This research generates new knowledge with the goal of meaningfully impacting internal medicine training and the care and health outcomes of patients and their families.

Serving as an integral member of our executive team, the Director, Business and Administration will work as a key partner in defining and accomplishing the department’s strategic goals and objectives. You will be adept at leading and operationalizing our vision through effective management of all administrative functions, namely finance, human resources, information technology, research administration and space management. Your record of building collaborative teams and your proven ability to develop strong relationships with university and hospital partners will help us advance our priorities and the impact of our research and innovation.

Essential Qualifications:

  • University degree and training in the area of financial and human resource management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of seven years senior administrative experience, preferably in a University or academic health sciences environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and significant experience in financial and human resource management in a unionized environment
  • Proven leadership, team building and change management experience
  • Demonstrated analytical ability in budget modeling and forecasting in a complex environment
  • Experience scoping and managing projects and leading successful change
  • Strong technical skills, and an increased awareness of new and emerging technologies; including learning management systems, registration and evaluation systems and online learning tools
  • High-level proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of financial and HR information systems
  • Proven leadership and management skills; outstanding interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; strong team-building skills and a collaborative and consultative style; excellent analytical skills and an ability to problem solve creatively
  • Strong decision-making skills; superior planning and project management skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, learners, senior administrators and external stakeholders
  • Proven commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity

Assets (Nonessential):

  • CA/CMA/CGA designation is preferred
  • A MBA or equivalent graduate degree considered a strong asset
