Reporting to the Vice President, as Plant Facility Manager, you will:

  • Implement effective maintenance practices of processing equipment to ensure a safe plant and an injury free work environment employees, staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Plan, organize and direct the maintenance operations which ensure the most effective return on assets.
  • Manage the daily processing activities, maximizing positions, volumes expenses, and net profit.
  • Develop and manage purchasing, logistic and sales relationships for all commodities and products in an assigned segment, line of business, and/or region.
  • Implement plans and strategies that minimize processing costs and improve efficiencies through effective utilization of human resources, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.
  • Effectively achieve business objectives and logistic schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations.
  • Participate in the annual plant business planning and budgeting and manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.
  • Operate the site at the highest levels of efficiency by managing equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness and managing site spending and expenses to minimum levels required to meet site strategy.
  • Ensure that purchasing and logistic agreements are effectively administered and that employee grievances are addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure the proper logistic and processing planning, design and implementation of capital and expense projects consistent with site strategy.
  • Effectively manage and monitor business activity including compliance to processing policies, managing plant and equipment’ s risk, and problem resolution.
  • Ensure that products consistently and successfully achieve company and customer standards, this includes understanding some grading and agronomy.
  • Recruit train, guide, and review plant supervisory and administrative staff and foster a motivated, high performance team.
  • Consult regularly with Leadership Team to ensure that processing objectives and logistic goals are consistently attained.
  • Remain up to date on recent production and processing management concepts that will enable you to recommend and advise improvements to facility.

What the successful candidate will bring:

  • Degree in Agricultural Engineering or related technical field with 5+ years of industry experience combined with 3 years of management and supervisory experience in plant operations and the pulse processing industry (MBA is an asset).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Seed Industry of Canada, CFIA, and CGC regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of processing equipment, agronomy, and logistics as well as domestic and international agricultural product export.
  • Analytically oriented with exceptional leadership, critical thinking, organizational, planning, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of company staff and hourly workforce.
  • Strong financial/business acumen with demonstrated ability to implement and monitor budgets and productivity requirements.
  • Self-directed and takes initiative.
  • Able to work 50 hours/week on average in a 12/6 operation.
