Job Summary

The Fleet Management Officer is responsible for leading and planning the maintenance, repairs, and replacement of CN’s automotive vehicle fleet within the respective province or territory. The position provides customer satisfaction while maintaining strict controls on fleet costs and implementing company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The role implements safe and efficient operation of the fleet while minimizing downtime and ensuring timely availability of critical equipment to support CN’s daily operations. The incumbent acts as a Fleet Representative with district and function heads for the assigned territory. The position is also involved within the assigned territory in CN National Safety Code (NSC) compliance all governing laws and regulations applicable to commercial motor vehicle and drivers.

Main Responsibilities

Fleet Management

· Manage and control fleet operating budgets and expenditures

· Establish best discounted door rates and quality expectations with supplier network to minimize vehicle operating costs

· Ensure expenditures are aligned with company policy and budgetary constraints and budget variances are clarified

· Liaise with customers and vendors to ensure efficient utilization of the fleet

· Review productivity reports, monitor through exception reporting, and take corrective action where necessary

· Review repair and maintenance practices and implement improved methods

· Plan and direct vehicle preventative maintenance programs and repairs while ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements and policies

· Evaluate assigned fleet based on maintenance costs, downtime, and overall condition, and develop recommended replacement list annually

· Collaborate with service providers and Fleet Management partners to identify and resolve issues including software, firmware, telematics, and hardware

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires occasional travel (30%) to visit vendors across the territory or region.

Requirements

Experience

Automotive and Truck Repair

· Between 5 to 10 years of experience in the automotive and truck repair

· Experience working autonomously

· Experience working in fast-paced environment

· Experience handling vendors

Education/Certification/Designation

· ASE Certifications- Red Seal

· Any professional designations would be considered an asset

· Hy-rail Certification*

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Strong technical knowledge and experience in Mechanics, Electronics, and Hydraulics

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Specifically Excel)

· Knowledge of fleet maintenance practices, vehicle specifications, and regulatory requirements

· Knowledge of Federal and Provincial regulations concerning motor vehicles

· Knowledge of CN’s safety and environmental policies*

· Knowledge of CN’s fleet operating environment*

· Knowledge of fleet services mainframe computer system*
