The Senior Manager, Wealth Management Credit is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance of a designated portfolio of loans at an acceptable level of risk by exercising sound credit judgment in approving and recommending applications, monitoring credit quality, conditions, and collection activity, thereby ensuring loan losses are minimized.

What you’ll do in this role?

  • Ensure credit applications are properly, accurately and completely investigated, analyzed and documented in relation to Bank policies and procedures
  • Consistently exercise credit judgment in approving and declining credit applications within established limits
  • Present recommendations on credit requests above established limits
  • Oversee an assigned portfolio, monitors unsatisfactory trends in risk ratings, credit conditions, overdue reporting, annual reviews etc., and initiates corrective action
  • Ensure Credit requests are adjudicated promptly, efficiently and consistently
  • Maintain a current awareness of the Bank’s loan policies, economic and business trends
  • Restructure credit requests as necessary to make bankable deals in line with Bank policy and guidelines. Negotiate with Private Bankers and Private Banking Unit Heads to ensure credit terms and conditions are appropriate to ensure sound risk selection and that client needs are met
  • Liaise with business partners in Private Banking, Commercial Banking, Retail Banking, and Scotia Capital to maintain open communication to ensure good service levels are provided to internal customers
  • Utilize clear verbal and written communication of credit decisions to business unit management with the provision of coaching and guidance when applicable to ensure the rationale behind a credit decision is fully understood
  • Participate in projects to ensure better efficiencies and uniformity/transparency to existing processes and procedures
  • Provide coaching and guidance to Private Bankers concerning credit applications
  • Contribute to the development of Private Bankers by identifying training needs

What we’re looking for?

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance. MBA, CMA, CFA or CA designation is an asset
  • 3-5 years of progressive non-retail lending or banking experience, or related equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of Bank lending policies and procedures, financial analysis, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral and security documentation and registration, collection, related legislation and accounting practices
  • Strong negotiation and problem resolution skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, in order to produce informative, concise and professional credit replies, presentations and correspondence
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to make decisions, frequently in the face of uncertainty, and clearly communicate rationale for decisions
